Richard Duwelius Obituary
64, died May 29, 2015 after attempts were unsuccessful to cure the cancers that had spread throughout his body. Richard was born July 11, 1950 to Thomas A. and Rosemary K. Duwelius in Terre Haute, Indiana. He attended Wiley High School, later attending Ball State and graduating from Indiana State University with a degree in Geology. He worked for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, Water, and Resources Division. There, he completed a variety of assignments before becoming Deputy Director of the Indiana Water Science Center. He received the Superior Service Award from the Department of the Interior and retired after 31 years. During his career, Richard was a member of several organizations, including Indiana Water Resources Association and Indiana Geologists, where he was elected President for one year.
Richard is survived by a sister, Christine; and a brother, John A.; two uncles, three aunts, and several cousins. No funeral services are planned at this time. Burial will be in Terre Haute. Donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated. Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services-Morris Street entrusted with the arrangements.

We just heard about Richard's passing. He was a great friend and coworker for many years. He had a heart of gold! He was super talented and will be missed. I grew up with Richard in Terre Haute and went to grade school, middle school and high school with him. We were in cub scouts, boy scouts and explorers together. He was a good friend, one that you don't often find. I was very sorry to hear of his passing even though I had not seen him for many years.

Richard was a longtime friend and co-worker. He was very bright, and witty. Always calm, cool, collected. a rare co-worker whom I could count on and confide in on ANY subject! He will be sadly missed, not only by me. Also by the great majortity of people who knew him. Rest in Peace "KING" Richard. -Mark Huff
