Richard Owen "R.O." Shock, 71, Indianapolis, passed away Jan. 13, 2004. He was born on Aug. 19, 1932 in Anderson, the son of Howard and Muriel Shock, whom preceded him in death. Brother, Joe Shock also preceded him in death. His loving wife of 43 years, Marilyn (Rasener) Shock, died this past September 2003.Richard attended Pendleton High School, receiving his BS from Manchester College, MS from Saint Francis University, Special Education endorsement and additional graduate work at Ball State University, Miami University and North Western University Medical School.He was a Blue and Gold Counselor for the U.S. Naval Academy. Richard was an honorary member of Mu Alpha Theta, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Alpha Psi Omega. He taught High School in Roann, Summitville, Alexandria and for the State Vocational Rehab.Richard finished his teaching career with 28 years, as a Math Teacher, Counselor and Director of Special Education at Arsenal Technical H.S. in Indianapolis. He also taught Driver;s Education and math to adults in evening school. After retiring from IPS, he worked for Tom Wood, Nissan, Pep Boys and Napa delivering auto parts.Richard was past president of the Summitville Lions Club, an Officer of the Ground Observance Corps., President of the Copperfield Home Owners Association and on the Membership Board for the Rivera Club. He was also an avid square dancer and was President, with his wife, of the Circle Eight Dance Club. He was active in the Masonic Lodge belonging to Ovid F&AM 164. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Dramatic Cast Club at the Murat Shrine. Richard was a past member of the Summitville Eastern Star.Richard collected banks, coins, toys and Avon bottles. He was an exceptional cook. He had a large repertoire of jokes and will be remembered for his sense of humor. He was a dedicated husband and loving Father. Richard touched many lives and made many fond memories for friends and family. He leaves behind a brother, David Shock and sister-in-law, Anna Lee Shock; daughter, Debra Walker; daughter, Sally Wurster and son-in-law, Al Wurster; sister-in-law, Marcia Cassidy and her husband, Heber Cassidy; sister-in-law, Deanie Reichwein; grandchildren, Elizabeth Latta and her husband, Nick Latta, Catherine and Sarah Walker, Max, Madison and Fritz Wurster; one great grandson, Alex Latta; and many extended cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner;s Hospital for Children. A Celebration of his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 and one hour prior to services Tuesday. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral center.
