Rita Applegate Obituary

Rita Kaye Ostermeyer Applegate 60, Greenfield, IN, died Friday, September 21, 2007 at her home in Greenfield. Born on July 23, 1947 in Marion County, she was the daughter of Bob and Rosemary (Salyers) Ostermeyer. She graduated from IU School of Medicine and married Gerald Eugene Applegate on Maundy Thursday, March 28, 1991. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Hancock Regional Hospital for almost thirty years where she was often recognized in the newspaper by her ER patients for the extra care she gave them. Mrs. Applegate was a member of Northside Christian Church and an accomplished square, round, and ballroom dancer. In her younger years, she fondly remembered eating sawdust while showing sheep. Surviving her are her husband, Gene Applegate of Greenfield; mother, Rosemary Ostermeyer of Greenfield; sons, Scott (Shannon) Gibbs of New Palestine and Steven (Jamey) Gibbs of Carmel; step-daughter, Alison (Ian) Slatter of Purcellville, Virginia; sisters, Donna (Bill) Clutter of Carmel and Anita (Tom) Davie of Columbus; grandchildren, Adan Slatter, Kaitlyn, Hunter, and Mykayla Gibbs; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death was her father, Bob Ostermeyer. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 25, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Her childhood minister, Pastor Herman Emmertt will be officiating with Pastor Darryl Denny performing special music and prayer. Online condolences may be sent to: sympathy@ erleweinmortuary.com
