Robert Knerr Obituary

Holyoke - Robert Carl Knerr, 74, passed away on September 28, 2025.

He was born on August 26, 1951, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Carl J. Knerr and Kathleen Welge Knerr. Bob grew up in Herrin, Illinois, and graduated from Herrin High School in 1969. He went on to attend the University of Illinois, where he studied mechanical engineering and graduated in 1973.

Over the course of his career, Bob worked as a gemologist at Neiman Marcus, as an engineer for several companies, and as the owner/operator of a sod & irrigation company. His work and life took him to Decatur, IL, Dallas, Texas; Houston, Texas; Monticello, Indiana, and Indianapolis, Indiana. His heart remained rooted in his hometown of Herrin.

Bob was the proud father of two children, Carl Knerr (Hala) and Tabitha Isner (Shane). He was a loving grandfather to Taj, Mazen, Safia, and Isra Abdul-Knerr, and to Tymari Isner. He is also survived by his sister, Karleen (John) Berra and her children and grandchildren.

A graveside service to honor Robert's life will be held on November 7th at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin, Illinois, with Father Reyling of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home.
