Sharon Adams Obituary

Services for Sharon Syme Adams will be 11AM Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Plentywood with Pastor Johnette Grefe officiating.  Interment at Plentywood Memorial Cemetery.  A reception will then be hosted at Angel Light Catering.

Sharon D. Adams, 76, passed away with her son Jesse by her side on December 3, 2019, at Riverstone Hospice House, Billings, MT.

Sharon Syme was born on May 29, 1943, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood, to Donald and Ila (Westphal) Syme. She and her mom lived in Plentywood when Don was in the Army during WWII. In 1950, the family moved onto their farm at Raymond. Sharon attended Raymond School for 1-8 grades, then graduating from the Plentywood High School in 1961. However, during her junior year, she attended school in Wibaux and Miles City, MT, when her parents had a road construction company. During the summer months, she stayed with her grandmother, Anatta Westphal, while working at the ASCS office. Sharon bought and trained, through 4-H, her first horse, a paint, Rocky, from Joe Collins, at the age of 14, owning several other horses during her lifetime.

On June 8, 1961, she married the love of her life Lloyd Butch Adams at Plentywood. Throughout the years, they lived and worked in several communities in Montana–Raymond, Plentywood, Scobey, Conrad, Billings–with Billings being her favorite. They settled in Plentywood when they owned and operated Butch’s Diesel Shop, where Sharon was by Butch’s side assisting with the mechanics, running for parts, plus doing the bookkeeping–not to mention caring for her family. Sometimes the work took them out of town–once traveling to Texas.

Sharon and Butch were partners, not only with their family & working together, but enjoyed horseback riding, snowmobiling, bowling and card playing. Sharon enjoyed cooking–and was very good at it– but also loved gardening, canning, quilting and was handy with a hammer. She was very knowledgeable and could do most anything she put her mind to–including plumbing and making a rock walk. The Plentywood community would see her walking during the early morning hours as she circled the town.

When Butch became disabled, Sharon attended college in Billings and Williston, ND, until securing a job at the Sheridan County Clerk & Recorders Office, as bookkeeper for the County. She was Butch’s caregiver doing his dialysis herself in their home. After Butch died in 1992, Sharon retired around 1995.
The last few years Sharon and Dawn enjoyed attending concerts at the Minot Hostfest. Sharon was a great help to her mother in her declining years, always there for her, taking her to appointments, parties and out to eat, helping her in whatever was needed, always ready, willing and able. Sharon had a captivating smile and a good sense of humor, with a quick wit.

Sharon is survived by her sons, Kelly Adams (Laura) and Jesse Adams, her daughter Dawn Volz (Dave); her grandchildren, Brandon Adams (Destiny), Georgia Adams and Evelyn Adams; her great grandchildren, Logan, Tristian and Dominick Adams; her sister Ardeth Blair; her aunt Ann Syme; brother-in-law Glen Adams (Bonnie); sister-in-law Shaaron Adams; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
