Steve Baker Obituary

Steve Baker 59, Indianapolis, died May 4, 2010. He was born July 18, 1950 in Indianapolis. Steve was a firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department for 35 years, retiring in 2007. Additionally he owned Baker's Mailbox Service for 28 years, retiring in 2009. He was a 1968 graduate of Warren Central High School and served in the Indiana Air Force National Guard. He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, The Emerald Society, Knights of Columbus, Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce and Franklin Township Fire Department Merit Board. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda (Gavin) Baker; children, Scott (Jennifer) Baker, Jenny (David) Hehmann and Lindsay (Tim) Cooper; mother, Dorothy Wohlhieter Baker; siblings, Carol Duncan, Donald Baker, Jr., Jeff Baker and Jerry Baker; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Donald Baker, Sr. A prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 in Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service, Stirling Gerber Chapel, 5950 East Thompson Road, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass on Friday, May 7, 2010 in Nativity Catholic Church, 7225 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the funeral home. In loving memory of Steve, contributions to the IU Simon Cancer Center may be made to the IU Foundation, 1100 W. Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
