Virginia Mae "Jinnie" Cord

Shelbyville - Virginia Mae "Jinnie" Cord, 83, of Shelbyville peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at her home.

She was born September 1, 1937, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Robert William Clark and Florence (Parish) Clark Curson. On December 15, 1956, she married Nicholas Joseph Cord, and he preceded her in death on March 5, 2005.

Jinnie is survived by her children, David Joseph Cord and wife, Sandra Kay, of Palm Bay, Florida, Barbara Cord Groves, and Michael Robert Cord and wife, Beth Ann, all of Shelbyville; brothers, Alan Curson and wife, Terri, of Southport, North Carolina, Darryl Curson and wife, Lynda, of Ellettsville, and Greg Curson and wife, Roberta, of Anderson; sister, Deborah Chambers of Everett, Washington; grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Casper Cord, James Nicholas "Nick" Groves and girlfriend, Alexandrea Sumuel, Robert Casner "Robbie" Groves, Luke Michael Cord and wife, Emily Simpson, William Robert "Clark" Cord; and great-grandson, Casper West Cord.

In addition to Nicholas, Jinnie was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Farrell Curson Jr.

Jinnie graduated in 1955 from Shelbyville High School.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, and St. Joe Social Club.

Jinnie retired as the office secretary for Cord Bros., Inc. in 1999, with 34 years of service. She was also a 20-year member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority. Jinnie was an avid flower gardener and had grown hundreds of varieties of daylilies, she was a member of the Indiana Daylily-Iris Society in Indianapolis.

Jinnie enjoyed attending events at The Strand Theatre.

A Celebration of Jinnie's life will be held at a later date.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelbyville-Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176; Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th St., Columbus, Indiana 47201 or Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, 1717 W 250S, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
