William Segar Obituary

William (Bill) E. Segar

William (Bill) E. Segar passed away at home on February 1, 2021. Born in Indianapolis, December 16, 1923 to Dr. Louis H. and Beatrice F. Segar, Bill received his BS and MD degrees from Indiana University. Following his pediatric residency at Riley Hospital for Children, Bill pursued a fellowship at Yale University to study novel areas of pediatric kidney medicine.

While at Yale, he met Julie Feld, whom he married in 1954 and remained so until his death. His medical career included time at Riley Hospital for Children, Mayo Clinic and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he served as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics from 1974-1985. Bill touched thousands of learners, patients and families through his research, mentoring and clinical care. Upon retirement, Bill and Julie were able to travel and see the world.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his sons Douglas (Doris) and Jeffrey (Ellen) Segar, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Combat Blindness International or the children's charity of your choice.
