AARON BLUMBERG Obituary

BLUMBERG

AARON, a lifelong Philadelphia resident and trial lawyer for forty years, died on March 20, 2012. Aaron received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Most of his professional life was spent as a partner at the law firm of Litvin, Blumberg, Matusow and Young in Philadelphia, where he represented numerous victims of catastrophic injury. Aaron was active with the Philadelphia Bar Association. He served on the Bar Association Board of Governors, as Assistant Treasurer (1987-1989) and Treasurer (1990, 1991, 1992). He also served continually from 1987 to the recent past on both the Professional Guidance and Professional Responsibility Committees. Among other efforts, he headed the committee entitled "The Rest of Your Life," dedicated to helping lawyers enhance the non-professional parts of their lives.
Aaron was devoted to preserving the environment and to animal welfare, including endangered species. He contributed pro bono work for the Audubon Society and the Delaware River Keeper Network, dedicated to protecting the environment of the Delaware River. His passion for animal welfare extended to his becoming a docent at and supporter of the Philadelphia Zoo. Aaron was on the board of the Friends of the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter. He was certified by Therapy Dog to work with his beloved dog, Marley, in elementary schools and cancer centers and helped train others. After Hurricane Katrina, Aaron traveled to work in New Orleans and worked in animal rescue. Until his recent illness, Aaron was a rower at the University Barge Club.
He cherished his time at his other home in Barnegat Light, NJ, where he served for many years as an active volunteer fireman and as an officer on the Barnegat Light Taxpayers Association. He loved spending free time sailing.
Aaron is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Patricia Robinson Blumberg, his nephews, Adam Blumberg (Heather) and Michael Blumberg (Melanie), a brother, Daniel Blumberg (Barbara) and several loving great-nieces, as well as many dear friends.
A memorial service will be scheduled sometime in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philadelphia Zoo or the Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Company.

I was just talking about Aaron 2 weeks ago and sharing the power and importance of his work to help us protect the migratory shorebird the Red Knot rufa that is so important to our region -- ecologically, economically and for enhancing people's lives. As we all face quarantine, the many benefits of connecting with nature for our physical and emotional well-being becomes overwhelmingly clear. Aaron was helping protect the Red Knot because he honored and respected their right to live on this earth, but also because he knew that they were important to our communities and that future generations should have the joy of experiencing their arrival on the bayshore. Aaron's passion for protecting our environment and his willingness to give so much of his time, heart and himself was and is an inspiration to us all. I miss Aaron and his wonderful smile, the way he challenged me to help find a stronger path for our environmental protection work, the way he inspired and supported and engaged the law students that had the joy of working with him while he volunteered at the Delaware Riverkeeper Network. Aaron is just such an amazing inspiration to me and to all who had the grand fortune of knowing him.

Dear Patty,
I just heard...this very day.
I am so saddened. I recently saw Aaron at the zoo after all these many years and remembrances of our beautiful creation at Barnegat and the friendship that evolved from that creation flooded my mind with such happiness.
What a gentle gentle man.
With love, Aline

My deepest condolences go to Mr. Blumberg's friends and family. May he rest in peace.

March 28, 2012

For years, Mr. Blumberg was the attorney for my late wife in a medical malpractice action. While we ultimately lost, we never doubted his intelligence, passion, professionalism, and human decency. He represented a standard in the practice of law that is all too uncommon, and I am very saddened to hear of his passing.

Aaron is such a special person. I came to know Aaron through my work. He was always so willing to share his time, talent, expertise, and great heart giving myself and my organization incredibly valuable guidance, friendship and support. Aaron and Pat invited me to bring my kids to the zoo for a special tour -- his loving kindness to my children was amazing. They had an incredibly wonderful day that they spoke about for weeks after. I came to know Aaron first in my role as the Delaware Riverkeeper, but his warm and loving heart quickly took over and i have been honored to have Aaron as a special special friend. All my love to everyone who loved and cared about Aaron -- I will miss him as I know you will too.

Dear Pat,

I am so sorry to learn of your loss. I remember you and Aaron from many years ago, during some of the happiest times at LBMY. The two of you always seemed to inhabit a special world of your own, so I know how hard your loss will be. Being the loving person you are, you are certain to be surrounded by good friends and loving family; it doesn't take the sorrow away, but getting through these difficult times will at least be supported by those who care so much for you, and who loved Aaron. You remain in my thoughts.

With sincere sympathy,
Debra Leigh Scott (Panichelli)

Patsy, How fortunate you are that you have such wonderful memories of Aaron. The two of you complimented each other and enjoyed being together. I have a smile on my face now as I remember Aaron at 11pm in NYC in the middle of the street flagging down a cab with his crutches. Your memories and love for each other will get you through these difficult times. He was an amazing person and friend. As A.A. Milne wrote " How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. Love you. B.J.
