Andrew McGlincy Obituary

McGlincy Andrew Harry Passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025 after 91 and a half years of life. He was known by his many friends and relatives as Andy, Uncle Andy, Dad, Uncie, Pop, and Poppy. He was the only child of Andrew and Mary McGlincy (nee Nocton) but was a beloved chosen brother to Tess, Hilary, and John. He shared many fond memories of living on Swede Street in Norristown. Andy was born in Philadelphia and spent most of his childhood in Swedesboro, New Jersey before graduating from Camden Catholic High School. He was very proud to be a Villanova graduate, earning his degree in English and History in 1957 after a break to serve in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He later earned a masters degree in guidance and counseling from Shippensburg University and worked most of his career as a high school guidance counselor at the Northern Chester County Technical School in Phoenixville. Andy was a devoted and characterful husband to the late Barbara (nee Freeze) for 40 years before her passing in 1997. He was a cherished father to Mary (Bill) and Ginny (Ed), and a loving Pop to Bill (Kelly), Barbara (Joe), and Allie. He was also a loving Pop to Kimberly (Jon), Shannon, Ed, and Jamie (Jacqui) and Poppy to Levi, LJ, Lilly, Julia, and Harry. He was Uncie and Uncle Andy to many nieces and nephews. Andy loved all social gatherings, was the spotlight of every event, and made even small errands an adventure. He spent 29 years in retirement traveling to Canada, Panama, Egypt, and much of Europe and taking many cruises. He also enjoyed seeing shows at the Walnut Street Theater. He was a member of Visitation BVM for 55 years and spent many Wednesdays cleaning the church. Most of all, he loved the beach in Sea Isle. He was an avid bridge player and gardener at his house on Mockingbird Lane. His numerous pets included dogs, rabbits, fish, turtles, and birds and he had colorful stories about each of them. Above all else, Andy will be remembered for his quick sense of humor and his generous heart. Relatives and friends are invited to Andy's Life Celebration on Friday February 7, 2025 from 6 to 8P.M. at BOYD HORROX GIVNISH LIFE CELEBRATION HOME of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike. On Saturday February 8, 2025 guests are welcomed to Visitation BVM Church, 196 North Trooper Road, for an additional visitation at 10:30A.M. with his Funeral Mass to follow at 11A.M.. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery of East Norriton. Andy loved flowers, but would also appreciate donations made in his name to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
