Andrew Holmes Obituary

Holmes Andrew Scott August 9, 1939 - August 5, 2025 Andrew Scott Holmes, known as Scott, was the son of the late Lydia "Pat" Holmes and Howard Holmes. He was preceded in death by his brother Alan "Buzzy" Holmes and his sister Christy Holmes. Scott graduated from German- town Academy in 1957 and earned both a B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from Cornell University in 1961. At Cornell, he was a member of ROTC, Psi Upsilon fraternity, the men's soccer team, serving as captain, and was elected to the Sphinx Head Senior Honor Society. He later served in the U.S. Army, before completing an MBA at the Wharton School in 1964. Scott started his career at IBM in sales. He had a successful career as Vice President of Sales for Shared Medical Systems. He was also an avid athlete who loved squash, tennis, jogging, and golf. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Germantown Academy for many years and served as Treasurer and President. He was a member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club and Sunnybrook Golf Club. He is survived by his ex-wife Joan Holmes, his son Andrew Holmes, Jr., his daughter Gray Hughes, son-in-law William Hughes, and beloved grandchildren Peter, Whitney, and Alexander Hughes. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Chestnut Hill, on November 15, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Germantown Academy.
