B. MARY (Swift), a past resident of Charlestown in Catonsville, MD, died peacefully on December 25, 2014 surrounded by her 4 adult children. Born March 7, 1927 in Bradford, England she completed medical school at the University of Manchester (1950), married Robert M. Haythornthwaite (1952), and moved to the US, where she practiced medicine for 50 years, specializing in pediatrics and the disabled. In addition to her many professional activities, Mary was a member of the League of Women Voters and volunteered with local literacy programs. She enjoyed nature, gardening, and walking, as well as travel. She is most fondly remembered as a kind, gentle and compassionate physician, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by 1 son, Richard S. Haythornthwaite; 3 daughters, Jennifer A. Haythornthwaite, Susan M. Haythornthwaite, and Sheila H. Glesmann; 1 son-in-law, Robert T. Glesmann; 2 grandchildren, Andrew and Natalie; and her sister, M. Joan Whaller. Funeral Services were previously held at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics in her name.
