I will always remember Bert as a happy, smiling and kind person. He loved singing with the opera company.

We just found out about Bert's passing. He and I sang together in the opera company chorus, and I would get him Met tickets when I could. We certainly regret your loss, and we hope that Adele and the family are doing well.

I was a student at Fels from 68-71 and played violin in the orchestra. One day in 9th grade, my best friend, also a violinist, and I, decided to cut an assembly that featured a student rock band. We were playing Eine Kleine Nachtmusik in a practice room when in walked Mr. Kornfeld. We thought we'd be in big trouble for cutting the assembly. Imagine our surprise when Mr. Kornfeld sat down at piano and played with us. This gesture had so much of an impact on us, that she and I were reminiscing about it on Facebook when we heard about his passing. Almost 50 years later, and we still remember him sitting down to make music with us. May his family be comforted..

So sorry to hear of Bert's loss. My sympathies to his family and my apologies for not being able to attend his funeral today. I knew Bert for many years when I sang with him in the Opera Company of Philadelphia professional AGMA chorus through the 80s. He was a terrific, happy and always pleasant person as well as a stalwart member of the opera chorus for many years. Bert was one of the nicest persons anyone could ever know. Rest in peace dear Bert.

Mr. Kornfeld was my vice principal from 1984-86 and my Mother's Counselor in the late 60's. He was a great man. He helped me in so many ways. I couldn't even count. He gave me a chance when no one else would. He also guided my mother through tough times when she was there. You could trust and confide in him. I will ever be grateful for what he has done for me. I am a Philadelphia Fire Lieutenant because he kept me on the right path. He always knew what to do and how to direct you. I still look back and ponder his insight and the paths I would have went down. Out of all the people through my life I would have to say he touched me the most. I will miss him. I know he has blessed many Children over the years with his guidance and kindness. He will be forever loved by everyone that knew him. May he rest in peace.
David, I am so sorry for your loss. Even though I never met you I'm sure he has done the same for you. Celebrate his life. I will pray for you and your family to gets through this tough time.

Mr. Kornfeild was my vice principal at Fels from 73-76.
I gree up in the projects across the street from school and like all of us kids from the projects we didn't have any father figure.
Well he was the only father figure that we ever had, for 6hrs out of the day.
While others looked at and treated us like dirt because we came from the projects he surely didn't.
He always gave us kids a break and for the most part, just was a great all around guy.
Going to Fels was probably the best 3 years of my life and I always said, if it went to 12th grade they would have 100% graduation rate, and that's all because of Mr.Kornfeild.
I am sure he would remember me and my 4 brothers who also went to Fels.
I'm also sure that he would be happy to know that I had a wonderful career in law enforcement and retired from the Philadelphia Housing Authority Police Department and am doing great and now living a very comfortable life is West Palm Beach Fl.
May he forever rest in loving peace knowing that he will be sadly missed by all who knew, and loved him.
Rest easy Sir...

I will always remember him as a kind, intelligent, loving Uncle; devoted family man; tinkerer; musician / music lover; and most probably the most frequent winner of the Metropolitan Opera Quiz in history.
