BRUCE MAHON Obituary

MAHON

BRUCE, a well-known banker and real estate developer, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 21, 2015. He was 84 years old. He is survived by his three children, Katharine and her husband Marc Krassan; Candace Hill; Tony and his wife, Susan Mahon; and five grandchildren, Michael, Alexandra, Robert, Anthony, and Sarah. He was married to Marcia Godsey Mahon for 50 years until her death in 2002. She was his inspiration and the love of his life.
Mahon had over 60 years of experience in business, insur-ance, banking, real estate development, and public service. He was the President of McCay Insurance Corporation and was one of the top 100 brokers in the United States. He was known throughout Burlington County as the Director and Finance Chair of the Burlington County Board of Freeholders. During his tenure, he was Committee Chair for the establishment of Rowan College at Burlington County (formerly Burlington County College) - the first accredited community college in New Jersey; Burlington County Special Services School; Burlington County Institute of Technology; and the Burlington County Library.
As a real estate developer, Mahon assembled 1,200 acres of land for the Burlington Center Mall; co-developed multiple shopping centers, hotels, and executive office centers in New Jersey, Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina; co-developed a 65,000 square foot banking operations center in Mount Laurel, NJ and an 18 acre industrial park in Bordentown, NJ among numerous other projects.
Mahon was the Board Chair-man and Founder of two publically traded banks: Carnegie Bank in Princeton, NJ and Admiralty Bank in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He was also Board Chairman and Founder of Anchor Commercial Bank in Palm Beach Gardens, where he continued as Chairman Emeritus and Board member until 2011.
He was a 75 year member of the Society of Free Masons as well as a member of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on numerous state and regional economic, health, ecological, planning, and philanthropic boards and committees. He was a graduate of his beloved Gettysburg College and also attended Harvard's Executive Corporate Governance and Rutgers Uni-versity Management programs.
Mahon often attributed his success to the foundation he received at Gettysburg College and was most proud of his military training and service as a Captain during the Korean War. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gettysburg College - Bruce A. Mahon '54, 300 North Washington Street, Box 425, Gettysburg, PA. 17325. Services will be private and the family will be receiving friends at home on Tuesday, June 30th. Please contact a family member directly for details.

I remember fondly the many get-togethers between our families.... and I owe Bruce special thanks as he was the first to expose me to good red wine! He was a fun, wise and generous man and I feel privileged to have known him...

My sympathies to the Mahon family during this difficult time. Bruce was an inspiration for me to everything that is possible and what one can achieve through determination and hard work. I will miss his presence and the way in which he carried himself and the best dinner conversation I have ever had the privilege to enjoy.
