Chandrakant "Chuck" Gupta

Gupta Chandrakant "Chuck" Of Blue Bell passed away at the age of 93 on the evening of June 26, 2025. His passions were family, education, philanthropy, tennis and cricket. Mr. Gupta was born in Rewari near New Delhi, India in 1932 and raised in Bombay (Mumbai). He received a B.S. degree from St. Xavier's College, Bombay and a post graduate degree in textile chemistry. Mr. Gupta came to the United States in 1956 for graduate studies in Organic Chemistry at Temple University. Upon graduation he pursued a career in pharmaceutical research in Philadelphia and New York City. In 1970, he made a career change. He returned to Philadelphia and established India Hand Arts, an import/export firm specializing in the manufacturing and sale of textiles from India and the Far East. Mr. Gupta was an active member of the English-Speaking Union (ESU) in Philadelphia. He served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer. At the ESU's 75th anniversary celebration he received the ESU National Merit Award. He joined the Germantown Cricket Club (GCC) to play tennis but his lifelong passion for cricket led him to form a GCC cricket team. In 1997, he was a member of the GCC cricket team that won the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. In addition, Mr. Gupta was a Board member of the International Visitors Center and a member of International House, Plays & Players, and the Philadelphia Junior Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the President and Treasurer of the Germantown Science and Arts Club. In June 1990, Mr. Gupta married Margot Rowley in a ceremony that was headlined in The Philadelphia Inquirer as "A double wedding with just one couple." Following an Episcopal Church wedding service, the couple had an outdoor Hindu wedding ceremony. Mr. Gupta is survived by his wife Margot, her children Laura Adams and Christopher Cale, his younger sister Vilma Sah and many cousins, nieces and nephews in the US and abroad.
