Today, the Winter Solstice marks the first day of winter and the onset of a new season. But for those of us who knew "Chuck the Sailor" we know we saw that word inscribed on his favorite means of transportation.
For the better part of 15 years, the Winter Solstice marked the starting point for what Chuck, my cousin Mike and I termed "The Winter Meetings."
It was at those meetings held in Ocean City that we planned our next sailing trip to take place with the advent of warmer weather.
Today my cousin and I our meeting for lunch in Newtown Pa. at the eatery we often met up with
Chuck to remember the good times we had and the camaraderie we shared as friends and sailors.
On this the marking of the shortest day and longest night in the Northern hemisphere, a time when the sun appears to stand still or pause for a moment in the sky, I´m reminded of a man who lived life to the fullest.
Today my cousin Mike and I will raise our glasses and propose a toast to "The Captain" and remember that what we have once enjoyed becomes a part of us that we can never lose.

Madeline,
Lisa & I are so sorry to hear of Chuck´s passing.
I first met Chuck as a co-worker in 1998. I did not realize at that moment how fortunate I was as I´ve come to know him not only as a business associate but as a sailing enthusiast, mentor, philosopher, financial advisor and, most importantly, a friend.
I am thankful for the time we shared and the many sailing adventures we had. They say that sailing is a source of inspiration and humility, it teaches attentiveness, anticipation, resourcefulness, and patience. Chuck exemplified all these characteristics. He once told me that sailing is a journey just as is life. He always felt at home when at sea, now he is at peace.

Aunt Madeline, i feel so honored to have known Chuck. You and he so cherished each other! It was lovely to be around such a couple! I will always remember Chuck for his sweetness, great conversation and the way he laughed at my corny jokes. You both handled everything together bravely and gracefully. Love you, Dear Aunt!

Our hearts are with you and our dearest uncle always. I am grateful to have such fond memories like those at "Uncle Chuck´s pool", sailing the seas that never seemed to have a breeze when I was aboard, bike rides, scrabble games, but most of all the laughs. Uncle Chuck, you will forever be loved and always be missed.
