CLIFFORD OWENS Obituary
OWENSBorn in Kansas City, he was a graduate of Central High School and Purdue University, where he earned his civil engineering degree, post-graduate engineering certifi-cation from Johns Hopkins University and attended Harvard Business School for Advanced Management Training. He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
Cliff began his Engineering career at the Pennsylvania Railroad in Toledo, Ohio. He continued his 46 year career at Penn Central, Conrail and in 1981 was appointed Sr. Vice President for Engineering and Staff at Consolidated Rail Corporation in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1991.
Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Margarite Owens, and brothers, Don and Bob. He was the beloved husband for 68 years of his first love, Shirley; loving father of David (Betty), Tom (Erin), Jamie (Veronica), Mark (Cheryl), Alexis (Alan Roe), Jeff (Carmela) and Andrea (Doug McDaniels). Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Mass 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct, W. Chester, where friends may visit his family from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Memorial contribu-tions to SS. Simon and Jude or to the Marine Corp League Foundation, P.O. Box 3070, Merrifield, VA 22116, would be appreciated. Arrangements

Our condolences to Mark and the entire family.
I worked for your Dad for years.... from pre-Conrail days.
Shortly after its beginning, he was at SN Interlocking, in Leavittsburg on the old EL, assessing what of the double track we should re-build after a bad derailment. Standing next to him, Ron Conway, the Division Engineer on the Mahoning Division, suggested that we should "single track it." Your dad grabbed Ron's shoulder as said ......"NOW, you are thinking CONRAIL." I'll never forget it.

Mrs. Owens: My sincere condolences to you and the family. It was always such a pleasure to be called upon to take "the boss" home when bad weather hit or transportation was at a standstill in Philly. If Bob Swert was added to the shuffle, I always had to concentrate on my driving skills, as they kept me in stitches the entire trip. I will miss him and think often of the good times. Mark and the Owens Family,
Myself and my father , Don Young, send our condolences. My dad worked for Cliff in the 70's when he was GM for Penn Central in Pittsburgh. He did us a huge family favor when my younger brother was killed in a car accident that my dad will never forget and is forever grateful. My dad recently told me the anecdote.
I also remember your Dad as VP Engineering and sitting in the morning conference calls huddled around Elmer Priebe's desk, raising hell with Mr Hasselman and Swanson.
My sincere condolences. It is hard to lose a parent.
