I hadn't talked to Dan in years and was shocked today to see that he had died in 2010. Dan befriended me after I finished my doctorate in math and came to Philadelphia to work. He was a loyal and kind friend and a brilliant and gentle man. I am so sorry to learn of his death

Hey Daniel, It was fun playig baseball and hiking up Hawk Mountain. Exploring Amish country and drawing pictures. You drug me all around to the Dupont estates even though I don't like Delaware. Train trips up to NYC were fun but I had to put my foot down about jaywalking. We don't jaywalk in CA. Hope you are having fun in your new realm and best always, your field trip operator, Margaret

Only a year later we found out about Daniel's death. My mother and I met him in the early 80's in Phila when we emigrated from the Soviet Union. Quickly, he became our friend and mentor in America. Daniel was full of life, kindness and mathematical brilliance and logic. We will never forget him.

When I first landed at the JFK Airport in 1985 it was Dan who came to pick me up with my wife. Many of Dan's friends in Philly in the 80's were the recent immigrants from Russia, Bulgaria, China. It is hard to overestimate his willingness to help us as many were initially without a car and decent English. Looking back I realize how much time we spent together discussing hundreds of topics from Andre Agassi's serve to Judaica. I just wish that every newcomer to America had a friend like Dan Kubert. His jovial "Chto sluchaetsya?" as he appeared at our doorstep still rings in my ears...

Daniel was a brilliant mathematician, an author of seminal articles in his field. A truly beautiful mind. He will be greatly missed.

I am so sad to hear of Daniel's death. He and I were friends at Cornell, and I have never forgotten him. I am so sorry that I am too late to re-connect with him in this world. He was a gentle soul.

I was saddened to hear about Daniel's passing. He and my older brother, Daniel Starobin, were childhood friends. I remember the high jump pit in the Kubert's back yard in Elkins Park, and the warmth and kindness that was always part of his family.
