Marvin L. Kubert, 85, of Wood River, NE., died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Bickford Cottages in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Derek Apfel CFC officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Wood River United Methodist Church and the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department. Marv was born on September 2, 1939, to Lambert and Mabel (Trepka) Kubert at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, NE. He attended country school before graduating from Dorchester High School in 1957. Then he went to Nebraska Vocational Tech school in Milford, NE and graduated with a degree in diesel mechanics and business in 1959. He started his career as a mechanic in York, NE before moving to Franklin, NE.

He married Evonne Fritson on November 12, 1961, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Franklin County, NE. February of 1963 the couple moved to Wood River where they made their home. He bought into Fairbanks Irrigation in 1978 where he was a part owner until his retirement in 2002.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ducks Unlimited, Volunteer Fireman and Rescue Unit – serving as the Fire Chief for several years, the Saddle Club, Platte Duetsche, Lyons Club, and the National Well Drillers Association.

After retirement he enjoyed restoring old cars, golfing, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Evonne Kubert; daughters, Deb (Bret) Baxter, Denise (Mike "Bo") Wissing, and Donna (Aaron) Burr; grandchildren, Bryce (Melissa) Baxter, Brock (Jaime) Baxter, Bailey (Josh) Archibald, Shane (Maggie) Baxter, Jennifer (Bryan) Baxter-Reza, Jerad (Alexa) Baxter, Miranda (Nate) Hartmann, Skyler (KyLea) Wissing, Seth (Emily) Smith, Sean (Kirsten) Smith, Shane (Stephany) Smith, Shad (Courtney) Smith, Briar (Bailey) Burr, Bailey (Sean Glen) Burr; great-grandchildren, Drazik and Daxton Baxter, Leo Baxter, Brecken, Beauden, and Bentley Archibald, Calvin and Simon Baxter, Austin, Gavin, and Rilie Reza, Maddie Baxter, Brynlee, Rylan, and Dawson Hartmann, Boone and Huntley Wissing, Mya and Brooks Smith, Napa and Walker Smith, Hayden, Rowyn, and Lennox Smith, Knox and Saylor Smith, Paben Burr, Charley Miklas, Josie and Sawyer Glen; and sister, Maxine Filipi.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law.
