Lost and found! As children, Danny and I were inseparable until his family moved from Manayunk to Haddonfield. I knew his immediate family and his mother's family. We reconnected in college. But then we each went our separate ways. If I remember correctly, he took a teaching position in Connecticut. I went to graduate school and eventually joined the Jesuits. Circa 2005, we reconnected and met when ever I visited Philadelphia and then Baltimore. I last had contact with him two years ago. Periodically I sent him an email, especially on his birthday, February 9, and left voicemails, but got no reply. I feared that he had died. A wonderful talented man, with a clever gift of words, and a marvelous voice. I miss him. My condolences to his family.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you. Your smile and laughter lit up every room you entered. You touched so many lives with your poetry and the wonderful parent you were to your 3 children. Glad you are reunited with your parents and sister in heaven.

My beloved father was one of the most loving, supportive and loyal people I know. He loved us boldly and filled our childhood with magic and laughter. He sacrificed many things for his family. He would always say “Yes” when I would ask him for help.
He was incredibly smart, a star athlete, a beautiful singer, and an accomplished writer and poet. He was always the funniest person in the room and people were drawn to him. Above all, he was a proud father. He told me and my brothers how much he loved us every day. He always said we were his greatest accomplishment.
My dad was not in good health for the last several years, He struggled a lot with day-to-day things, but he always managed to have a smile on his face. I will miss him singing his made-up songs, his jokes, and him calling to check on me whenever the news said that CA was having any kind of weather. I will miss his stories, his laugh, and knowing there was someone out there who loved me as much as he did. Whatever heaven is, he is surely there.
I love you, Daddy. I will miss you forever.

Dan was a treasured member of the poetry writing workshop at the Renaissance Institute in Baltimore. He is dearly missed by everyone who knew him in our lifelong learning community. This is the last stanza of a poem I wrote in 2020 as a tribute to Dan when he moved to NJ. The title of the poem is "In Another Life."
in another life
you are the master poet
a wordsmith beyond reproach
i am only a beginner
you deliver indelible lines
joyce and heaney never far away
before recalling hundred yard sprints
fast and graceful like your poems
those races ended in victory
unlike the lovely sad finishes
that often close your best verse
philly is your middle-earth
love gone astray a rich loam
you uncover with keen eyes
ever hopeful you find the best
in what others recite to you
be yourself you seem to say
in another life
i would have met you sooner

Dan was a treasured member of our CCHS class of 1965. Wherever Dan was, there was always a smiling group of people around him. Over several years about a dozen of us would regularly get together for mini reunions at a friend´s house in Stone Harbor. Danny always brought the charm. His gift of language was a marvel. This very kind man will be very missed.

I grew up with his son Tim. We used to call Mr. Maguire "Big Dan". He was a great guy and always treated us with respect. My condolences to Tim and his family.

Danny was a classmate all through Christ the King Grade School and Camden Catholic High School. We saw each other at several school reunions, both grammar school and high school. He was a conversationalist, a poet, our Professor Higgins and a good, caring friend. In going through Ancestry records, it was like revisiting his life's moments in a heartbeat. But that was such a worthwhile life and he left such an impact on so many. He will be truly missed. Maureen Carroll McLoone

A fellow poet of my husband, David Kozinski, Dan came to be a wonderful friend to us both. We had fun adventures with him in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania, including trips to the Baltimore art museum, and a party hosted by a college friend of mine in Frederick, as well as poetry events. I was touched by Dan's devotion to his mother and sister during their last years in Baltimore. When he once was a featured poet at a salon David staged at our Wilmington home, his N.J. friends crossed the Delaware just to hear his eloquent words. Dan could recite a verse at the drop of a hat. He even serenaded our feline daughter, Maya Louise ^..^ with a poem about a black cat. We loved him and will miss him. Our thoughts are with Dan's children who were a source of great pride for him.

Dan was a wonderful guy, and a model to other members of our high school track team. He always gave everything, no matter what the circumstances. Personally, he was sincere, and interested in others. May God bless him.
