Donald. " Ladd Obituary

Ladd Donald F. "Don" Donald F. "Don" Ladd died on September 13, 2024 at age 74. In his last week on this earth, he was surrounded by his wife of almost 47 years, their six children and other family and friends who came to bid him farewell. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a brilliant attorney, a steadfast friend, and a tireless source of wisdom and good humor. Don grew up in Connecticut, where he developed a love of lakes and mountains. In his early 20s he moved to the Philadelphia area, where he completed his degree at Villanova University while practicing carpentry. He was 25 when he met Rosemary Riethmiller, and he knew by the first date that he wanted to marry her. They bonded over many things, including a love of deep conversations and a shared faith in God. They wed in December 1977 in Don's first semester at Villanova Law. He spent 40 years as a trial lawyer at White & Williams defending doctors and hospitals, eventually becoming chair of its Healthcare Group. While the law was one of Don's greatest passions, nothing was more important to him than his family. Don planned many a family adventure, none more epic than the 5-week cross-country trip with six kids in one car. It was one of the many dreams he realized, along with buying a home on Lake George, NY, and traveling the world with Rosemary. Don leaves an indelible mark on all those he loved and guided through tough times. He is survived by his wife and children Elizabeth (Dan), Katie (Ragnar), Megan, Lauren (Chris), Jenny (Andy), and David, as well as 10 grandkids. Don's family would like to thank his aides who supported him in his battle with Parkinson's. Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Friday from 9 to 10:45 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 606 West Ave., Jenkintown, PA 19046, followed by Mass at 11 A.M. Int. Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SSJ Welcome Center Outreach Fund, 9701 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118.

I was privileged to be Don's friend. We were roommates back in our days at Villanova and for a couple of years after graduation, as we found our way in the world. Don was one of those rare individuals who combined a keen intellect with a kind heart, and all of us who knew him are better for it. My deepest condolences to Rosemary and the family.

I will always have great memories of Don. I met him at Villanova, with his future sister-in-law (Millie) and her Ex John. We all became friends along with Rosemary. He was a great guy and my prayers are with you.

I was so very sorry to hear of Mr. Ladd's passing. I worked closely with him and Marie for several years at White and Williams. He often spoke about his love of his family and how important they were to him. Mr. Ladd was a kind, generous and very down to earth, genuine man. He was also an amazing litigator. Sending prayers to your family. His personality was larger than life and I know he will be missed.
