Dr. Donald J. Marcus

1933 - 2022

Marcus Dr. Donald J. Age 88, passed away January 13, 2022 at his home in Shannondell, Audubon, PA. Donald was a Neurologist at the VA Medical Center in Coatesville for 40 years until his retirement in 2020. Born in Philadelphia on December 14th, 1933, he attended West Philadelphia High School and later majored in English at Amherst College, Class of 1955. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School with an MD in 1961 and completed a residency in Psychiatry at Temple University Hospital in 1967. He later completed a residency in Neurology at Pennsylvania Hospital in 1975. He enjoyed hiking, reading French poetry, stamp collecting, travel, and playing the cello "poorly" (Don's own words.) A lover of languages, he particularly loved the culture and language of Wales. He was a Steward of the Welsh Society of Philadelphia and chaired its Scholarship Program. He served as a reader at St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley and had many friends at the Church of St. Luke and the Epiphany in Center City Philadelphia. Don enjoyed robust good health until the last years of his life when he suffered from pulmonary sarcoidosis. He is survived by his nephew, Bryn Evan Marcus and two great-nephews and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 25th at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of St. Luke and the Epiphany, 330 S. 13th Street, Philadelphia. Interment to follow. Another Service will be held at The Saint David's Chapel (enter using the 18th Street door) of the Arch Street Presbyterian Church, 1724 Arch St., Phila., on Sunday, February 27th, at 3:30 P.M.
