DORIS BARTUSKA Obituary
DORIS GORKA, MD, Aug.4, 2013. "39 and holding" Beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Dear mother of Ann Marie (Mark Walbridge), Karen Herrmann (Thomas), Christina Kistler (Brian), Mia Finkelston (Thomas) and the late Kathleen Bartuska and Lisa Ann Shorrock. Loving grandmother of Ryan Thomas, Chelsea, Megan and Shane Herrmann, Anthony Shorrock, Sabrina Kistler, Katherine, Abigail Ann and Thomas John Finkelston. Great grandmother of Logan Herrmann. Also survived by her brother Paul Gorka (Christine), her sister Alice Pawlowski (Joseph) and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Sun. Aug. 18th, 6 - 8 P.M. and Monday 8:30-9:30 A.M., at the McILVAINE F.H., 3711 Midvale Ave., Phila. PA 19129 followed by her funeral mass at St. Bridget Church at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in West Nanticoke, PA. For those desiring, donations in Doris' memory may be given to The Phila. County Medical Society, 2100 Spring Garden St., Phila. 19130, The Drexel Univ. College of Medicine, P.O. Box 8235, Phila. 19101, or to The St. Bridget Memorial Fund, 3667 Midvale Ave. Phila. 19129.

Dear Ann, Karen, Tina and Mia, I was so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. She was an amazing woman and so kind and funny and humble. I will always remember and appreciate how she and your father (and all of you) allowed my sister and me to be part of your lives during those many weekends we spent with our beloved grandparents. Doris n'était que douceur et joie de vivre.Merci pour les moments heureux que tu nous a tous donnés.
Pensées pour ses filles. Je compatis à votre chagrin.
Pardon pour n'avoir appris la nouvelle que quelques jours avant NOEL alors que je m'apprêtais à lui transmette une carte de Noël.

I had the privilege and blessing that my life crossed path with Doris's life. During the few opportunities I had to talk to her, I was amazed by her elegance and humbleness. I have the certainty in my heart that she is already in heaven very happy.

I was an Endocrine Fellow of Dr. Bartuska from 1985-87 at MCP. She was an excellent, kind mentor. I had just had my first daughter and she would come to me at the end of the day and say.."It's a nice day..go home, smell the roses and play with your daughter."

To the Bartuska family.... your mother was a delight in our Tap Class at the Senior Center. We will all miss her and her energy. She spoiled us with delicious treats each week.

As a student of Dr Bartuska I have many memories of her. She told great stories. I have passed on to others things she had taught me. One that comes to mind was never say child care issues prevented you from making a meeting. Say,"that's not a good time for me. Can we do another time?" Clever like she was.

Doris was a class act. In the sense that we live on in the people we have influenced and helped to grow, she could not have a finer memorial. She was a role model even as a medical student.

Dr. Bartuska was the only doctor able to correctly diagnose and treat both my mother and myself. As a teenager, I was in awe of her skills and always felt warmly welcomed in her office. I feel fortunate to have known this fine doctor and wonderful human being. My prayers and best wishes to her family.

To all of us who were priveleged to know Dr. Bartuska and her family it is a big loss. She was so elegant and gracious when you were with her. She opened her home to her children's friends. Dr. & Mr. Bartuska were very good friends of the Philadelphia County Medical Society staff. It was a pleasure working with Dr. Bartuska in her many roles at PCMS and she gave me many memories to cherish. She will be sorely missed by all.
