DORIS GUTTENTAG Obituary
DORIS W.
Doris was a graduate of Brooklyn College, and also received a Master's Degree from Temple University. She was a counselor in the Philadelphia school system for many years. She continued her counseling activities after retirement, lecturing on family planning in schools, and on other topics in nursing homes. She also held sessions at nursing homes with a therapy dog, and co-authored a widely used handbook on nursing homes in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Doris loved travel, accompanied her husband Jack on many trips abroad including an adventure-filled round-the-world journey of 13 months during 1970-71 with their children. During that period, she visited the Falasha Jews of Ethiopia prior to their evacuation to Israel. She also counseled a Jewish congregation in Shiraz, Iran on how to raise funds. In addition to United Jewish Appeal, Doris' favorite charity was Smile Train. There will be a memorial service in the spring.

Doris was a valued member of the Docent Council of the Philadelphia Zoo. I loved and appreciated working with her during my time as Director of Volunteer Services. She will be greatly missed.
