DOROTHY W. formerly of Willow Grove, PA, passed away on August 17, 2014, at The Hill at Whitemarsh, Lafayette Hill, PA. One of 6 daughters of Birchall and Olive Hammer, she was 89. Dorothy graduated from Cheltenham H.S. in 1942, and then attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, graduating in 1946. She majored in Chemistry and was Phi Beta Kappa, receiving honors in 1945. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Following graduation, Dorothy worked briefly for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and then with her father's company, Plywood Specialities, of Jenkintown, PA, eventually becoming its president. One of her great loves was travel, which she did extensively. For many years she worked for Travel Anywhere, of Phila., guiding numerous groups around the world, with her specialty being ski trips to Europe. Overall, she made more than 90 trips to Europe. She spent many years associated with Abington Memorial Hospital, spending 5 years on the Foundation Board, 10 years on Board of Trustees, plus association with numerous other committees of the hospital. She was chairman of the June Fete in 1970. Dorothy also worked with the Jenkintown Day Nursery and Children's Hospital Committee. Dorothy is survived by 2 sisters Phyllis Duin, of Redmond, WA and Lee Scott, formerly of Lower Gwynedd, PA. She is also survived by 10 loving nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Dorothy's Life Celebration Friday starting at 10 A.M. followed by her Memorial Service 11 A.M. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 7809 Old York Rd., Elkins Park, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy's memory to The Women's Board of Abington Memorial Hospital, 1200 Old York Rd., Abington, PA 19001 would be appreciated.
