Hard to believe more than ten years have come and gone by since her premature death but I remember Elizabeth vividly as the promising Armenian student in the American University of Beirut studying who wanted to study medicine and did. I never met her in person after AUB but she lived up to that promise. I am sure many benefited from her keep intellect as a caring physician and will gratefully remember her throughout their lives as she leaves a legacy for hard work, dedication and care to her son and daughter.

You have been on my mind and in my heart this season. I know how deeply spiritual Elizabeth was and if there is a "beyond", I can picture her preparing Armenian feasts for those with her.
I will miss Elizabeth's collaboration, wisdom, funny and touching emails, updates on all of you, and mostly, her friendship.
Love to you all.

My Dear Ron, Christine, and Andrew! Never did I expect to be saying goodbye to Dear Dr.Weller so soon...I want you to know how sincerely grateful I am to have known her, to have worked and trained under her tutelage, to know your family, to have seen you over the past many years, and how unbelievably sad I am right now.
Please accept my deepest condolences at this time, and always know that she will never disappear from the hearts of so many. The people she was close to, her friends, her colleagues, the numerous students/fellows/interns she had time and desire and kindness to train, and the families and children/adolescents she had helped, regardless how she felt herself!!! I will never ever forget everything she had taught me, and will continue to lead a life that would make her only proud.
Please take care of each other, and if there is anything at all that one can do, please always know that I am and will be there.
With incredible sadness at this most difficult time,

Dearest Ron,Andrew and Christine with the deepest sadness and from the bottom of my heart I am sending sincere condolences from my entire family.Elizabeth was my mentor, my teacher,my friend and my big sister in this foreign land. She always held my hand and with the deep look of her big eyes would say"yes, you can do it".I shared so much of my life with her at the Child Psychiatry office at KU-her door always open ...All my professional success has been because of her encouragement and guiding.I was looking forward into her quick visits in KC or meetings where we could see each other, talk about our children, work and our life in general. She held my hand when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and gave me energy to go to work during the entire period of chemotherapy-she didn't miss any days of work...I shouldn't either.I will miss her terribly.May God guide you through this very difficult time. With so much love,Teresa Varanka with family

Dear Ron, Andrew and Christine,
There aren't any words that I can say to diminish the hurt and pain you are all feeling.
Elizabeth was always "genuine, real, courageous". She saw the "big" picture and focused her all her energy at making this world a place that is little bit better for others. She did this while also tending to the little things - a few weeks ago she was cold and borrowed a sweater - this was an old blue sweater which I never expected back. But the following week Elizabeth was excited to have me touch and smell the sweater that she had hand-washed and was very soft and smelled wonderfully.
We will all miss Elizabeth very much. She is a great lady whose compassion, goodness and love will continue to guide us.

Elo was always a focused and determined person who was inquiring and questioning until she was satisfied with the answers. Dear Weller family.
Words cannot express my sorrow. Dr. Weller has taught me how to be the best healer I can be and she was truly an inspiration to me in terms of her dedication, humanity and total commitment to her families whom she has taken care of. She would spend hours with me and her families to make sure that I learn everything I need to learn and to make sure her families get the best treatment possible. I will never forget how much she cared about all those around her.
And, even in her time of sickness, she never gave up and continued and continuing to give hope to all of us.
I will be praying for you all in this difficult time, and be comforted by all of our wonderful memories of Dr. Weller. She is truly and always will be my guiding light. My deepest condolonces to the Weller family and loved ones.

Dear Weller Family
Dr Weller has always been a true angel sent by God for us. She has changed our family's lives forever. She believed in us when we thought that it was never possible. Our son her patient now 18 will graduate this year with a promise to Dr Weller that he would believe in himself and could do better. She promised to be there with him on Graduation day-I know that she will be! He will be that "Great youngster" that turned into a "Great young man". This was all possible by the Angel that we had by our side all this time. I know she will continue to shine and watch over us all. We are truly blessed to have had her touch our lives.
We will miss her greatly.

I did not know Dr. Weller very well or for very long, but I spoke with her recently at the ABPN's 75th anniversary and am so saddened to hear of her death. She was an inspiration in all she did, I'm sure, but especially to be working and doing all she could while undergoing treatment. I have also worked during chemo treatment, so I understand how difficult and courageous that is to do.
I lost my mother to cancer when she was only 61 and my heart goes out to you, her family. Memories help to sustain, but do not replace her presence. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Weller family,
I had the great honor of getting to know Elizabeth just a bit through our joint interactions over the past 20 years in the many areas of academic psychiatry. I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful colleague she had been to many of us, somebody who approached psychiatry, academic medicine, and work with children, with an amazing openness, sense of wonder, and great curiosity. Even when faced with very difficult issues, as a group of academics, Elizabeth was always somebody who we could count on to have a fresh take on a problem that would move all of our thinking forward. She will be greatly missed by all of us in academic psychiatry.
Sincerly,
Daniel S. Pine

Dear Ron, Andrew and Christine,
I, as many who write today, feel as if we have all lost a great mentor, teacher and to some degree a parent. I say that because for innumerable child psychiatrists, Elizabeth was the starting point in our journey to become the best clinicians, educators and researchers in child psychiatry. For me she has been one of the most inspiring and exemplary human beings in every which way. She always said to me/us "the goodness will go with you wherever you go." Those words have been a guiding light in my worst moments. She believed in the goodness within people and always encouraged the same thinking in those around her. That legacy of hers will always live within us. Your loss is formidable; the loss to the field irreplaceable and for many of us...it is in a sense the closing of a chapter in my life atleast.....I have lost my guru......I am so glad she insisted I go to Columbus to train with her. To have learned from her was a privilege; I am proud to be called one of Dr Weller's trainees. She will live through each of us as we carry her message of advocacy on behalf of kids and families. I will miss her very much and want to tell you you have so so much to be proud of. Take heart and have courage. Our thoughts are with you. Bela Sood, Richmond, VA

Dear Ronald, Andrew and Christine
Please accept my deepest condolences at the loss of your spouse and mother. I met Elizabeth at the American University of Beirut. Her reputation as a brilliant student had long preceded my acquaintance. Along with her keen intellect, she harbored a genuine congeniality. I will appreciate if you would let me know of her burial site. Forest Lawn in LA is where my father and my brother are buried. I would like to visit her grave as well with my mother next time I am in Los Angeles. While a medical student, Elizabeth attended to my mother when she was hospitalized at the American University Hospital and my mother never forgot Elizabeth’s genuine concern for her welfare. May God bless her soul and may you find comfort and solace in the legacy she leaves behind.

Dear Weller family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. I am writing this not only on my behalf, but on behalf of many patients she helped after a devastating earthquake in Armenia in 1988. I also write this on behalf of the department of psychiatry at the NIH in Armenia, where she helped to established a library of psychiatric literature by donating hundreds of books and journals. Dr. Weller was my first teacher in this country, and also my friend who supported me and my family, as I am sure she did thousands of others in her life. She will be sincerely missed.
