Erwin Mazurkiewicz

1922 - 2018

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of a true warrior, our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Erwin Kazimir Mazurkiewicz on February 19, 2018 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his beloved wife Genevieve (2010). He leaves behind his children Irvin (Charmaine), Karen Sumanis (John), Eugene (Cathy) and Jeanette Pin (Randy), as well as, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Emil (Helen) and extended family. Erwin was a WWII Veteran who fought with the 1st Polish Armoured Division. He came to Canada in 1948 and married his beloved Genny in 1949. He worked hard all his life and retired as President of Firestone Steel Products in London in 1984. He was an avid volleyball player and represented Canada in the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago. He continued to play volleyball into his seventies. He always tried to do the right thing and he had a smile for everyone he met. He was always happiest when surrounded by his family. He will be in our hearts forever. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with Vigil Prayers at 8:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene's Roman Catholic Church (Parkdale and Queenston) on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 11 am. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations in Erwin's memory may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation.
