HOSMER
EVELYN T. (nee Tiedeken)
Of Rosemont, Pa. passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020. She was 95 years old. Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late Eugene C. Hosmer, Jr. and the loving mother of E. Chandler (Trish) Hosmer III, Christopher (Barbara) Hosmer, and Anne (John) Greenleaf. She was also the devoted grandmother of Cameron (Emily) Hosmer, Heather (John Crimmins) Hosmer, Ted (Kristin Riley) Hosmer, Julia Hosmer, Jack Greenleaf, and Audrey Greenleaf. She is the great grandmother of Jane, Samantha, Claire, and Hannah Hosmer. Mrs. Hosmer was the sister of the late Claire (Frank) Harms, Frank (Helen) Tiedeken, Jr., and Theodore (Jody) Tiedeken. Mrs. Hosmer was born in Philadelphia on September 12, 1924 to Frank J. and Anna G. (nee Collins) Tiedeken, Sr.. She was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls in West Philadelphia.
After high school, Mrs. Hosmer worked at the Farm Journal in Philadelphia during which time she met her husband. From the time of their marriage, they lived in the Philadelphia area and Wyckoff, New Jersey.
In addition to spending time with her family, Mrs. Hosmer was an avid bridge player, an active parishioner at Saint Thomas of Villanova church, volunteered at the Bryn Mawr Hospital thrift shop, and worked at Strawbridge and Clothier. Among other charitable work, she was a past president of the Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute. She was a member of the Drexel Hill Juniors, and she volunteered for the Little Sisters of Guadalupe and the Devon Horse Show. Mrs. Hosmer loved spending her summers on Long Beach Island, NJ., a love she passed on to her children. Playing bridge, doing cross-word puzzles, and a good sale at Strawbridge and Clothier made her happy. She adored her family and loved a good party, and she loved to combine the two. She traveled the world with her husband, visiting and living in countries including Egypt, Russia, Taiwan , and the Czech Republic. Climbing the Great Wall of China and sailing on the Nile was thrilling to her.
The family would appreciate in lieu of any expressions of sympathy that donations be made to the Catholic Philo-patrian Literary Institute 1923 Walnut Street Philadelphia, Pa. 19103.
