A short while after Daddy passed, I received a card from a friend stating, "It will not get easier, but you will eventually find peace. You will cry less when you think about him and smile more." 'Tis very true.
I giggle often thinking about Daddy and different things he said and did. I find myself telling random people little adages and snippets from Daddy's lessons. Just today, I was reading a student's paper criticizing a character in a story. The student wrote, "I learned from my English teacher that no one can make you feel bad or make you angry unless you let them...". I smiled because I realized I am teaching my students things I learned from Daddy.
And, has anyone else noticed how insanely vibrant this spring has been? I swear it is the most beautiful spring I have ever experienced. I often think about how we learned to appreciate the natural world around us from Daddy. I am so grateful he instilled in us such a respect for the beauty in the simplicity of nature.
Finally, every time I look at my siblings and their kids, I am reminded of where this all started, Mother and Daddy. Missing one piece, the keystone, of our structure has been so difficult, but I am so lucky I have all of you to love, laugh, and reminisce with.

Every time I drive through Chestnut Hill (which is almost every day), I think of Mr. Gallagher. It reminds me of when he took me to see Mary play in a field hockey club game, and we spent the day driving around. He took me through the neighborhoods telling me all about the history of the area and then we went to lunch on the main street. When we got back in the car, Smashing Pumpkins came on and not only did he make fun of me for liking them, but he started imitating the lead singer and was acting like a head banger. It was hilarious! Of course he thought he was the funniest person ever, so he was laughing at himself more than I was. I'll never forget that day...it's always been one of my favorite memories not just with him, but in my entire life :)

I can't single out one brother-in-law because they were all great, but each one unique...Garrett, was the funniest and could make anyone laugh, but he was also sincere, kind, understanding, comforting, and inclusive...if ever you needed help he was there never asking why...I miss him, especially his great smile and oh yes, his POINTING finger, that was to make certain you were really listening! Remembering his words "am I right or an I wrong" of course he was always right, as my wife stated he was infallible!

What a shock for us when Frank called today to speak with Garrett and learned of his passing. Frank & Garrett met more than 25 years ago during a business meeting. It was a friendship filled with lots of laughter, serious discussions about business and even more serious discussions about who was the best...Marines or Navy! Garrett visited us several times in Milwaukee and we always made sure he made it to church on Sunday morning! It is difficult to realize that we will never hear him say "..bottom line" again. Frank and I will always remember the laughter he brought into our lives, his energy and most of all, his devotion to his children.
Our deepest sympathy,

We recently celebrated, and I emphasize the word "celebrated," my father's 62nd birthday (October 19th). Just a short time ago, Daddy was playing tennis, chasing his granddaughter, Kathleen, around, and entertaining his friends and family as was normal of this gregarious and insightful man. I just wanted to give a universal Happy Birthday to Daddy, and I hope everyone that reads this guestbook will do the same. As all who know my father can agree, a quick tear may be shed because we miss him, but he preferred laughter, love, and family; so offer a toast, a thought, and a prayer in happy celebration and memory of a wonderful man's 62nd birthday.

I never met Mr. Gallagher in person but I had a funny phone conversation with him about my grammar on the card I sent with flowers to one of his daughters. He called to tell me that it wasn't correct. Funny thing was, he was right. I know only one of his children well but if her character is any indication, he was incredible man. I am very sorry for your loss.

Dear Garrett and Joe and all of the Gallagher kids,
I remember your dad from our days at St. Andrew's. I was sorry to hear about his passing from my brother who still lives in Drexel Hill. It must be difficult to lose your father at such a young age and I will pray for all of you.

I only came to know Garrett in the past two years, but enjoyed every minute I knew him...Oddly, we shared many conversations about death and the afterlife...I know that he is in a wonderful place and he is someone who will be truly missed...
The world is a better place because it had Garrett in it....
My friend, I will see you someday....In my thoughts,
Gee.....
Always, Candace

My heart and prayers go out to the whole Gallagher family. When I think of Mr. Gallagher I think of him telling a joke or a funny story, and his laugh is the first thing that comes to my mind. Mr. & Mrs. Gallagher raised an amazing, beautiful family. I know he was so proud of that. I am so sorry for your loss and I will be thinking of you.

I was stunned to hear about my buddy Garrett. Even though I had not seen Garrett for several years, he was a great and loyal friend and I will miss him deeply. The last time I saw Garrett was on the way to the shore, several years ago. My wife Betsy and I pulled off at a one of the rest stops and as we approached the establishment, who should be there trying on sun glasses from a vendor's stand, but Garrett. "How does ths one look?" "What do you think of that one?" "Which one do I look better in?" It was true GGG. My wife said; "It's Saturday and look how nicely he is dressed." And the memories of my several years working with Garrett, the days and nights will remain with me forever. He truly was a one-of-a-kind individual. My sympathy to his great family all of you children, brother and sisters, Kathy; what a great bunch of people. I'm only sorry that I learned about this sad event too late to give my final respects to a wonderful person, a person who deserves my respect in a thousand and one ways plus. Garrett, I'll see you my friend and thanks for everything!
