GEORGE WILSON Obituary

WILSON

GEORGE MATTHEWS WILSON M.D., passed away peacefully at home Saturday, April 18, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor R. Wilson. Born and raised in Washington Crossing, NJ, Dr. Wilson was the son of the late John Clifford and Verena B. Wilson. He was a graduate of the Pennington School, Ursinus College and Jefferson Medical College, serving his internship and residency at Germantown Hospital. Dr. Wilson practiced General Surgery at Roxborough Memorial Hospital for over 30 years and completed his career in 1997 after serving four years as Chief Medical Officer there.
He was a caring and dedicated physician, esteemed highly by his patients many years after he had treated them.
Dr. Wilson was a precision drummer and, as a young man, was invited to play with the Martin Mayer Orchestra in Trenton, NJ. He also played in a medical staff combo early in his career. In addition to drums, Dr. Wilson also enjoyed playing guitar and banjo.
A true Renaissance man, he also enjoyed painting and was an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time at his home at the Jersey Shore. Known for his keen wit and wisdom, Dr. Wilson was an accomplished racontuer whose stories both fascinated and amused all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Wilson is survived by his sister, Marjorie Opdyke, her husband, Neil, of Gainsville, FL; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robert and Doris Lanouette, of Hatfield, as well as many caring nieces and nephews. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Richard A. Reif Heart Institute at Doylestown Hospital, 595 West State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901, of which Dr. Wilson was a strong supporter and where he received outstanding care over the past seventeen years, will be deeply appreciated.

I will miss Big George more now than I missed him the past few years. Your house was my favorite to visit because he was always smiling and laughing and never short of good advice or a bear hug. Eleanor, please let us know should you need anything. We miss you - we love you - we are thinking of you. - Alexandra Smith
