Gordon Farr Obituary

Gordon Eugene Farr, 61, former Bradford County Coroner, of 403 Clinton St. Sayre, Pa., passed away early Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 2010 at his home following declining health.

"Gene" as he was known by his family and many friends was born in Waverly, N.Y., on June 30, 1949 the son of the late Gordon E. Farr and Viola May Tum Farr. He was a graduate of Athens Area High School Class of 1969, and in early years was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad in Sayre, and by American LaFrance in Elmira, N.Y. He was later employed by E.I. DuPont in Towanda for many years until his retirement in 1998. Gene served as Bradford County Coroner for over 30 years until declining health no longer permitted him to continue. He succeeded his father Gordon E. Farr as coroner following his father's death on Jan. 11, 1981. Gene was a member of the Ulster United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Pennsylvania Coroner's Association and the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Association. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army in Sayre, Board of Directors of Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services and the Kiwanis.

He is survived by his wife, Norrene Murphy Farr at home; two sons, Dale Gordon Farr of Ulster, Bryan Eugene Farr of Sayre; two grandchildren, Maclin and Madison Farr of Troy, Pa., his brother and sister-in law, Richard "Dick" and Jeanette Farr of Ulster; mother-in-law, Genevieve Murphy of Ulster RR1; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Malcolm and Sylvia Murphy of Ulster RR1, Lyndon and Stephanie Murphy of Ulster RR1; sisters-in-law, Shirlene Murphy of Ulster RR1, Marceil Murphy of Ulster RR1; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother, Viola May Tum Farr on April 24, 2006; and sister, Joann Lee Tuttle on Aug. 13, 2007.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home. Interment will be private in the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster, Pa.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to Greater Valley EMS, 904 N. Lehigh Ave. Sayre, PA 18840 or to the Ulster United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 345 Ulster, PA 18850 in Gordon Eugene Farr's memory.

What would I like to say? How do I even begin. Ill start by saying I never knew I could miss anyone so much. You are an amazing father. At 44 years old there isnt one day that goes by that I dont untilize the knowledge you taught me. Carpentry, electrical the list could go on and on. I know I wasnt the best behaved son. And caused you more heartburn than tums.
I pray that I could just be a fraction of the man you were. I may never be that person, but it doesnt stop me from trying. I love you dad. And I miss you every second.

Geno was one of a kind. He always had a smile. He loved to talk. We will remember him fondly. We both worked with him for many years at DuPont. Too young, too soon to be taken. With much sympathy.
