Harris Colton D.D.S Obituary

Harris N. Colton, D.D.S Nov. 30, 2024, of Cherry Hill, NJ. Loving, devoted husband and life partner of Arlene (Millman) for 69 years, having met as teenagers at Temple University. Predeceased in death by loving parents Max and Fannie (Kleinfield) Colton and sister Doris Colton Rosenman.Loving father of Dr. Janice (Dr. Bennett) Ojserkis, Gary (fiancée Crystal), Jerrold, Esq., and Laurence (Susan).Proud Zayde of Dr. Rachel (Dr. Jared Anderson), Rebecca, Esq. (Marc Filippino); Eric (Dr. Jeff Gottfried), Lisa (fiancé Matt Halpin), David; Tucker (fiancée Claire Fleming), Griffen (fiancee Victoria Smith), Skyler (fiancée Dr. Lauren Kerner), Drew; Alexander and Amanda; and great granddaughters Leah, Emily and Hannah. Harris graduated from West Philadelphia High School ('49) and Temple University School of Dentistry ('55) at age 22. He served as a Captain in the Air Force ('55-'57) and then began his own dental practice in Woodbury, NJ in 1958. He practiced there until 2004 after which he taught at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (UMDNJ) for ten years. Harris was a past president of the Southern Dental Society and the New Jersey Dental Association and chaired and also served on several Councils of the American Dental Association. He was awarded Fellowships in the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Dentistry International. He was an examiner for the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (formerly NERB). He was a strong advocate for Jewish education, having served as Chairman of Congregation Beth El's religious school, Chairman of Midrashah, and as President of the Bureau of Jewish Education of South Jersey. For his 50th birthday, his family and friends set up the Harris and Arlene Colton Kesher Scholarship Fund at Beth El in his honor. Harris served as a Vice President and was a Life Trustee of Congregation Beth El, Voorhees, NJ. He enjoyed his family, summers in Ventnor, Februarys in St. Martin, and especially helping people. Relatives and friends are invited Thurs., December 5, 2024 beginning 12:30 P.M. to PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS, Inc., 2001 Berlin Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ where Funeral Services will begin promptly at 1:00 P.M. Funeral Services will also be live streamed on the funeral home website at plattmemorial.com. Interment Crescent Memorial Park, Pennsauken, NJ. Contributions may be made to the Harris and Arlene Colton Kesher Scholarship Fund at Beth El, www.bethelsnj.org or a charity of the donor's choice,
