I'm so sorry to hear of Stretch's passing. He introduced me to the world of square dancing back at International House and shared his wit and love for music. So many people were drawn in to what he organized and facilitated. I'm forever in appreciation for his contributions.

My condolences to Teresa and all of Stretch's family. I saw Stretch many times over the years at music events--at concerts, and at the Mermaid Inn --where he would remind Open Circle participants to drink more to benefit our hosts--because he couldn't do all the drinking himself!. Just a week ago I was listening to an old audiotape from a Penn's Landing folk concert in 1980, in which Stretch was the M.C. He was always friendly and helpful. I'll miss his stories.

Theresa and Family, Stretch was a giant and will always be remembered for his caring and warmth. I always appreciated the support he offered. I regret that I'm out of town and unable to make the service. Gina and I will be thinking of you.

Theresa and Family - Stretch filled our lives with stories, good fun around a campfire, bad jokes told well, laughter and music. I can't think of a time when some form of music wasn't playing in the background somewhere. While we are all sad at his passing, when I think of all my years spent around the two of you, I smile. I'm sure that right now others are smiling in Heaven, as Stretch starts up with "Let me tell you a story..."
Be sure to come back to Fest and get lots of hugs!
Kissy

Theresa -
I am really sorry to hear about Stretch's passing. It made me think of the times I would sit and yak and connect with him. I hope thoughts of him bring a smile to your face as you remember all the great times you had together and all the wonderful things you two accomplished together. As long as we are all here, he will also be here.
I also appreciate this online guest book. It happens I had vocal cord surgery last Monday and will not be allowed to talk for at least another four days - and then very limited vocalization for a while. This book allows me to express my feelings to you. Your are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Teresa and Family,
Your family has always felt like an extension of my own. The Goldstein's will cherish the memories we share, all the joy, as well as the heartbreak that life has dealt. Stretch can rest easy knowing that he has left behind a strong, loving family.

I'm so appreciative of Stretch for opening up to me and many others the opportunity to experience square dance, Old timey music, and the wonderful community of folk music and dance. It really made a big difference in my life. Best wishes to you Teresa. Thanks for sharing Stretch with us all those years.

Dear family of Stretch
I was not around enough to get to know him well. I do know that he served the Folk Song Society and I am sure that he gave it everything he had. I regret that previous commitments make me unable to attend tonight of tomorrow.
Remembering him with joy,

Theresa and family,
So sorry to hear that Stretch has passed away. I am sure he's already arranging some musical events with those that have gone before - and will be waiting for all of us when we get there.
There's a phrase that helped me when my mom passed away, that goes something like this: " Don't cry for me, don't shed a tear, I'm spending Christmas with Jesus this year." If we add in Ed, Esther, Bob, Howard, George and many others from the early days of the Folksong Society - he's in good company.
Hugs to all,
Barbara and family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Teresa and family,
What a loss to Philadelphia!--not only as a father who knew the true meaning of "family values", but a man whose vision enriched the music community, from his booking of wonderful acts for the Phila. Folksong Society to calling the weekly square dances to starting the concert series aboard the tall ship Gazela Primeiro at Penn's Landing. We are all so grateful for the many things that he taught us, as well as his unique storytelling style. He will surely be missed, but his legacy will live on...

Theresa and Family,
We're so sorry to hear that Stretch passed away. You both were such great neighbors and friends to us when we lived next door to you on Edgemont Street. Our daugter Emily loved to sit outside with Stretch and just watch the cars drive by. He was such a great man and loved all the little kids on the block. We will always remember him. Rest in Peace Stretch.... Love, The Calhoun Family

In my eyes Stretch will remain smiling, calling a dance and treating everyone as family. He will surely be missed. My prayers and love are with Teresa, the family and everyone in his life path.

Teresa,
Just think of the stories Stretch will be telling up there. Picture the angels sitting around a campfire...
We treasure the time we were able to spend with both of you. Our thoughts will be with you all. God Bless...
