My late mother, Sallie Tibshrany, was a cancer patient of Dr. Djerassi 1972-1974 at Fitzgerald Mercy Medical Center in Darby, PA. He was a wonderful physician and person. Dr. Djerassi extended my mother's life for two years until she died in 1974 at Fitzgerald Mercy. Thank God for Dr. Djerassi. May he rest in peace. Bud Tibshrany, Columbia, SC

Dear Family of Dr. Djerassi,
In the 70's my father was given a 3 month prognosis following lung surgery. Everyone said there was "nothing" that could be done: unfortunately the truth was that there was nothing "they" could do but they didn't have the wisdom to realize that. Helen Nauts of the Cancer Research Institute in New York referred me to Dr. Djerassi who eventually worked one of his many miracles and saved my father.
I still remember the warmth and gentle manner in his voice during our first telephone call. After he received my father's medical records we again spoke and he told me to speak to my father and tell him the truth about his condition and to promise him that Dr. Djerassi could help.
Under Dr. Djerassi's care, remarkably, my father completed 5 years of radical chemotherapy at Misericordia (Dr. Djerassi was ready to throw in the kitchen sink if it might possibly help) and finally they agreed - "remission".
My father, Conrad Gottlieb, an idiosyncratic giant in his own right, became one of Dr. Djerassi's poster boys and they remained friends for the more than 20 years that my father "lived" life to the fullest and eventually...died of something else.
I have been working on a book about patient advocacy - inspired by the heroic efforts of the (2) physician heroes in my life, Dr. Djerassi being one of them. He was my father's friend and his savior: and I shall remember Dr. Djerassi all the days of my life, in gratitude for the honor of having known him.
On behalf of my family, our love and sympathy is with you.

Dear Djerassi Family,
Please know of the deep sympathy that my family feels for you during this time. Our acquaintance with your dear husband/father was in 1980, when after reading the article of him in Readers Digest, I called and he answered, not only the phone but our cry for help. Our Mom was given a very short time to live at HUP and Dr. Djerassi bought her another year with us. Of that, we are so grateful. At the same time, our dear Aunt came under his care-he gave her solace and compassion for her short time, too. Our thanks to him and our prayers for you.

To the Djerassi Family
My father was a patient of Dr. Djerassi in 1978. He had an extremely rare form of cancer. For a few short months my father and those who loved him were given hope by Dr. Djerassi. I will forever be grateful to him for his compassion and attention to my father. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Nira, Ramy, Ady and families,
I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Djerassi for about 15 years and enjoyed all of our encounters. I know from our conversations that he loved his family and was very proud of his children's accomplishments. You should all take comfort in knowing that he lived a life of purpose and helped so many people. I will miss him very much.
With deepest sympathy,
David Prickril
