ISABEL DURKEE


Of Kennett Square, PA, former-ly of Newtown Square, passed away on July 4, 2017. Born in 1919 in Bridgeton, N.J. to Herbert and Sallie Durkee, Mrs. Warner graduated from Bridgeton High School and attended Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA. After graduat-ing from Swarthmore College, she worked for the Office of Strategic Services, the prede-cessor of the CIA, first in London, England until the outbreak of WWII, and then in Washington, D.C. In 1948, she married Miles Warner, an attorney. They had 3 children before divorcing.
Mrs. Warner went on to earn a master's degree in Library Sciences at Villanova Univer-sity. She worked for many years as a high school librarian in the Penn-Delco School District.
Mrs. Warner was a devoted mother and grandmother and had many interests. She travel-ed widely, enjoyed bridge, was an excellent cook who looked to Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" for inspira-tion, was an accomplished knitter, an avid reader, and a serious gardener with a special interest in rock gardens. She is survived by her 3 children Bob Warner (Jean Hemphill) of Philadelphia; Sallie Anderson (Evan Ernest) of Wallingford; and Thomas Warner of York, and 3 grandchildren.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crosslands Employ-ee Appreciation Fund, Cross-ands Communities, 1600 E. Street Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
