James A. McIntyre Obituary

McIntyre James A. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6th at the age of 76. Jim was born and raised in Philadelphia and, along with approximately 1,000 young men, graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1964. He was the starting quarterback on some accomplished North teams in '61, '62 and '63, and was a proud member of the school's football Hall of Fame. After graduation, Jim accepted a football scholarship to Temple University. While at Temple, he started as quarterback on the freshmen football team. After one year, Jim transferred to Southern Connecticut State University, where he holds a few passing records. After leaving Southern to work in the business world, he came back for three years as Southern's backfield coach. Jim followed that up with head coaching stints at Stamford Catholic High School and Bishop McDevitt High School in the Philadelphia Catholic League. To this day, former coaching staff and players from McDevitt greet each other with the word "Kahuna." Jim began teaching at Lansdale Catholic in 1980 and continued as a science teacher for 33 years. During his tenure, Jim was known for his creative teaching methods ("Botticelli", "…anyone?"), and happily played the role of Mr. Rogers to cheering students at the Homecoming skits. He was well-loved and respected by the administration, faculty, staff, and students. Some of his favorite memories were chaperoning LC students on multiple trips to Europe. Jim had a great sense of humor and a wide range of interests from jazz music to crossword puzzles and non-fiction books. He loved good food and a few sips of beer while also embracing all things sports-related. Conversations with friends and family were treasured and he absolutely cherished time spent with his family, who he loved and adored. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Edith, siblings Elizabeth (Tony), Mary, and Joseph. Jim will be missed by Joan, his loving wife of 52 years, son Dan (Christy), his grandchildren James and Kelly, siblings Thomas (Blanche) and Kathleen (Stephen), along with dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, located 2316 Fairhill Avenue (at Easton Rd.) Glenside, PA 19038 at 11 A.M. There will be no visitation. We are so thankful for the incredible care Jim received at Abington Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Abington Health Foundation, Oncology, 2 WW Fund at 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. www.mayfuneralhome.com

I still miss my old friend, a wise man with a wonderfully modest temperment.

I think about my old friend often and how much fun we had together going back to our days growing up in Germantown. As we got older and busier, we didn't see each other as much as I would have liked, but it was nice to know that when we did, we would laugh and share stories. Miss you, Jimmy Mac!

I have known Jim since we were both around 11 years old, and we continued our friendship through our marriages, the births of our children, and the passing of our parents. My memories of him are too many to share in this space, but today hearing all the nice things that were said about him at his Mass, I could only feel pride in having had him as my friend all these years. The world is a little less light without him with us.
