JAMES J. O'BRIEN Obituary

O'BRIEN JAMES J. Suddenly, on August 21st, 2024 surrounded by his deeply loved family. Beloved husband of Maggie (Strange), devoted father of Sean (Erin Williamson) and Rose (Drew) Zimmerman, cherished pop of Andrew Zimmerman, Emma Zimmerman and Wilde June O'Brien. Jim was the embodiment of a family man. His family was his treasure. There was nothing that he would not do to make their lives better, easier, happier. When his daughter was in college he thought nothing of driving an hour to take her favorite chips to her. He never missed a basketball or soccer game, and he was his childrens biggest fan. Jim's favorite time of the year was each summer when the family spent a week at Rehoboth Beach. Pop loved taking the grandkids to the boardwalk, watching them play in the pool, and indulging them with ice cream, popcorn and anything they set their eyes on. His mission, which he accomplished, was to create precious memories with his family. He loved hosting Easter at his home where he patiently filled dozens of plastic eggs for his famous "Uncle Jims Easter Egg Hunt". He enjoyed having his home filled with brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews celebrating the holiday. He was a proud retired member of Sprinkler Fitters LU 692. Jim was the son of the late John and Jane (Egan) O'Brien, dearest brother of Jane Ellen (Glen) Van Ness and John (Sharon) O'Brien and the late Patrice (Mark) Goetz. Brother-in-law of Charles (Mary Ann) Strange. He was adored by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dear nephew of Eileen Mahoney. Jim will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his quiet demeanor. But, most importantly his dedication to his family. He loved and was loved beyond measure. His family will carry his love with them forever. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Beebe Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for their care and concern for Jim. Relatives and friends are invited to Celebrate his Life on Monday, August 26th at 10 A.M. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 701 Gaul Street, Phila., PA, Mass at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Laurentius School, 1612 E. Berks Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125 would be appreciated.
