JAMES "JIM" BEAR Obituary

BEAR JAMES "JIM" Of Philadelphia, formerly of Roslyn, PA, died March 18, 2022 at the age of 48, after a valiant battle with cancer. He left this life with his loving wife and partner of 25 years, Maura Heidig; his son Leo (6) and his daughter Julia (11), by his side. Jim was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School where he was a star athlete and a 1995 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College where he played football and was a member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. Jim was an avid runner participating in the Philadelphia Half Marathon, several triathlons, and the Broad Street Run for the past twenty years, including this past year during his cancer treatments. A pioneer and visionary, Jim was the founder and long-time leader of GTown Radio. His dedication and contribution will leave a lasting mark on the Germantown community and beyond. In addition to the volunteer work of running G-town Radio, Jim has worked full time as an IT consultant for over 15 years. Jim is also survived by his parents, Maureen and Wharton (Teddy) Bear, brother Greg Bear, niece, Ashley Bear, and nephews, Tom Bear and Jack Rooney. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Bear and sister, Maureen Bear. Jim loved being a father and was completely dedicated to his family in every way. He will be remembered as living a full, but much too short life, touching those around him with his infectious positivity, quiet determination, intelligent wit, and caring spirit. A Celebration of Jim's life, to share stories, listen to music, to make a toast, and to laugh and cry together, will be held, April 30, 2022, 2 P.M. to 6 P.M., at Cliveden Carriage House, 6401 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's name to G-Town Radio.

I knew Jim through Luke Trainer and played against him in college. Later, living in Mt. Airy, we'd run into each other on many occasions and even had some beers together once in a while. I saw Jim last year when he came by to borrow a bike rack and had no idea about his cancer diagnosis. He was truly one of the nicest men I've ever met. I'm so sorry for your loss.
