JAMES JOSEPH MACK III "JIM" Obituary

JAMES JOSEPH MACK III "JIM" Passed away peacefully on March 5th, 2025 at his home in Wayne, PA, surrounded by his family, after a 10-month battle with glioblastoma. Jim was born in Chester, PA on October 10th, 1963 to James J. Mack, Jr., and Clotilda Mack. He grew up on 24th Street surrounded by his loving family, including many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim spent his summers at Knowlton Swim Club, growing his passion for all things swimming. Jim attended St. James Catholic High School and Widener University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1985. Jim was an incredible student leader holding several positions including captain of the swim team and member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Jim married his wife, Deb, on December 10th, 1994. They were blessed to celebrate 30 years of marriage this past December. Jim was a devoted father to his three girls, coaching their sports teams and officiating swim meets for nearly two decades. He attended all their events, supporting the Raiders and the Tribe through lacrosse games in the snow, swim meets across the country, and many social events. He was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, holding season tickets to the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers for many years. Jim had an incredibly successful 38-year career in public accounting. He started his career at Conrail and Ernst & Young, eventually becoming partner at Smart and Associates and Eisner Amper. Jim was well respected for his trusted client relationships. Jim continued his commitment to Widener University, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for 22 years. He served as Vice Chair and on numerous committees, including Chair of the Audit, Compliance and Risk Assessment Committee. Jim also served as the Chair of the Presidential Search Committee. Jim showed his support of Widener through the creation of the Frank C. Lord Fund to honor one of his professors and the James J. Mack, III and Debra J Kurucz Swim Program Endowed Fund that continues to support Widener's NCAA Division III swim teams. Jim served as President of St. David's Golf Club for the past two years, after having served as Chair of the Admissions Committee, Finance Chair, Treasurer, and First Vice President. Jim's enjoyment and passion for "the club" were shown through his many, many rounds of golf and countless close friendships he's developed over the years. Jim held various leadership positions at St. David's Episcopal Church, including Rector's Warden and Vestry member. He also served on the boards of the Episcopal Church Foundation, Upper Main Line YMCA and Philadelphia Art Alliance. Jim is survived by his wife, Debra; his mother, Clotilda; his daughters Emily (Patrick), Abigail (Kyle) and Anna; and his grandsons, James and Thomas. Jim was predeceased by his father, James J. Mack, Jr. Jim's Celebration of Life will take place at St. Davids Church, 763 South Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA 19087 on March 13th at 1:30 P.M. Following the Service, there will be a reception at St. Davids Golf Club, 845 Radnor Street Road, Wayne, PA 19087. The Burial will be private. Jimmy was a classmate of mine @ St. Robert´s, and a good friend with my older brother David. I have nothing but sweet memories of Jimmy. He was funny and calm and so kind. Thank you Jimmy for being the sweetheart you were during our childhood years...RIP Jimmy.

Jim and I loved playing milk carton hockey at lunch many years ago in St Robert's. I seen him blossom while attending St James. A great friend.
