Janet Ungerman

1924 - 2024

Ungerman Janet Shultz Age 100, long-time resident of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, and in later years Hatboro, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 27, 2024, in Durham, North Carolina, where she was living with her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Larry. Janet was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Fred A. Ungerman, who passed away on October 14, 2021. She is survived by daughters Beth A. Ungerman (Jerry Rosenbloom), Pamela Ungerman deMent (Samuel), and Nancy Ungerman Mansfield (Lawrence), son Fred A. Ungerman Jr. (Kathryn), 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Janet was born to I. Sturger Shultz and Pamela Mowery Shultz on February 16, 1924 and grew up in Philadelphia. She graduated from Frankford High School in 1942, and subsequently attended and graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1946 where she was active in a variety of activities including the Future Teachers of America. She met her husband Fred after he returned home from serving in World War II in the Engineering Corps of the Eighth Army in the European Theater and they married in March 1949. After a first teaching job in Lakewood, New Jersey, Janet went to work in the Philadelphia School District where she taught various elementary grades and academically talented students for more than 36 years, retiring in 1988. Janet was a lifelong Presbyterian. She was a member of the Huntingdon Valley Presbyterian Church for 64 years where she was an active supporter of the Valley Christian School, taught Sunday School, worked on numerous committees, and participated in Bible Circles. Janet loved spending time with her family; she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a devoted friend. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at Huntingdon Valley Presbyterian Church, 2364 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
