Jeff was the best dentist. I am 50 years old now. Jeff was understanding of my learning disability. He knew that I got nervous going to the dentist. He was so gentle and so caring. He was amazingly funny too and made me laugh. I will always miss him.

To the Blum Family

I was stunned and shocked today when I was reading through the Penn Gazette and saw that Jeff had passed away last November. My name is Jeff Ginsberg and I was in the Penn Dental class of 1981 graduating one year after Jeff and also becoming a Pediatric Dentist in 1983. Though we were not real close Jeff was a great role model and I remember him helping me when everyone else at Penn thought I was crazy to go into Pediatric dentistry..well from one Dr.Jeff to the other it was one of the best decisions I have ever made and still love what I do every day as I am sure Jeff did too! My deepest sympathies and condolences to his entire family...I'm sure there are no words to express how much he will be missed

Dear Cindy and Family,
You undoubtedly would not remember me but I was Jeff's classmate throughout Dental School and was shocked and deeply saddened to read of his passing in the Penn Alumni Magazine today. Although we were always geographically separated due to my career in the military I always had fond memories or Jeff and our times together. He was an inspiration to me and I know his patients loved him. My deepest belated condolences to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald Cimis

Dear Cindy, Debbie & Goldfarb Blum Families: Stunned to read about Jeff's illness & passing. Reading about his acumen & accomplishments, adoration & appreciation from patients & students & his work in Israel are all quite extraordinary! Remember Cindy & Jeff at Camp where Debbie & I were bunkmates. Worked with Jeff at USY Band & enjoyed hearing him play concerts during his youth. Always smiling & willing to help! Can't recall seeing Jeff & Cindy much since their Pitt visit. When I started working on the MainLine in 1996, his was the first office I visited & I was welcomed as a long lost friend, though cautioned that even though I may fit into his tiny dental chairs that those were earmarked for his pediatric patients! How wonderful you had a magnificent true love all those years -- with such a loving, admirable & talented mate!. Jeff's remarkable heart & good nature impacted family, friends, patients & parents & students alike. His philanthropy, while not surprising, was heartfelt & as natural to him as breathing. The Exponent article was a wonderful capsulization of an empassioned life enjoyed and lived! His choice to work while ill exemplifies his selflessness & caring for his patients. Suspected by some young patients, I CAN confirm, without a doubt, that Dr. Jeffrey Blum was indeed THE Tooth Fairy! May he rest in the arms of a merciful g-d, and Cindy -- wishing you & your family the solace of the wonderful lives you lived & the chance to continue his legacy of love, prayer, humor & service.

My daughter and I recently learned of the passing of Dr.Blum.It is with heartfelt sorrow that Whitney and I extend our sympathy to the Blum family. It is as if we have also, lost a family member. Dr.Blum was Whitney's dentist for 20 years. She was his patient until she graduated from college in 2010.Need I say more.

He was a great dentist and a better human being. It was our pleasure and a blessing to have known him. While we mourn his passing let us also choose to celebrate the life he lived and the legacy he left behind.

Remember he is not gone;he is just away and you'll see him again one day just on the other side of through...

Sincerely,

Dr. Blum was an amazingly cool Dentist. He knew just how to make the experience enjoyable for children. Even back in the 80's, he had arcade games and toys that mad you excited to visit the dentist. The dental work was always secondary in your mind. He was truly a person who left an indelible presence. He will be remembered fondly by all.

I always loved going to Dr. Blum and I never was afraid to go to the dentist. I actually enjoy it and it is all because of him and his wonderful demeanor. I even took both my children to him (driving about an hour because it was Dr. Blum) and they loved him. He was such a beautiful person and he is truly missed.

Dr. Jeffrey Blum was simply the warmest, funniest, most caring and talented pediatric dentist we could ever imagine. All three of my boys looked forward to appointments with "Dr. Jeff," especially our youngest son, whose special needs were met with skill and sensitivity. Personally, I always enjoyed a few moments to check in with him about his Jewish life every six months, as he was also passionate about his spiritual growth and exemplified someone who seeks to understand and know himself in the context of his tradition.

We will miss you, Dr. Jeff!

Dr. Blum was the kind of pediatric dentist a parent and child could only dream of. We will never forget his orange crocs! We were lucky because we got to see him at Beth Am on Shabbat too. In fact, our oldest daughter could not wait to go to synagogue to tell him about her first lost tooth. We want to wish his family our deepest condolences. What an incredible legacy he has left behind.

I have been a patient of Dr. Blum's for a number of years now. I'm fourteen, and as long as I can remember while living here, visits to the dentist were an enjoyable and fun experience. Unlike some doctors, Dr. Blum really showed that he was interested in what my brothers and I had to say, and never failed to make a witty comment that would make us laugh. Being in his office full of oversized toothbrushes and swinging clocks put me at ease. Through this difficult time, I know that this wonderful doctor's warmth and joy will be remembered. May he rest in peace.

We were so saddened to learn of Dr. Blum's passing. He was a wonderful dentist for my kids, always cheerful and fun, making going to the dentist something they actually looked forward to! How many of us can say that? We will miss him a lot! Our sympathies to his family and loved ones.

My son Sean was a patient of Dr. Blum's. My son has multiple disabilities, and Dr. Blum was so special and gifted to work with kids, especially those with challenges. My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Blum family. I believe fellow parents of patients of his will agree saying he was one of a kind. We were blessed to have you in our kids' lives. Rest in peace, Dr. Blum.

We were referred to Dr. Blum several years ago after having some negative pediatric dentist experiences. Dr. Blum was a godsend to us. He made dentist visits and needed dental work much less scary. He took his time and was extremely kind. He always showed interest in our child and family. We are very saddened by his passing and would like to express our deep sympathy to his family and friends.

"Dr.Jeff" is how my two kids refer to their favorite doctor and who will be so incredibly missed. I cannot begin to tell you how often my kids talk about their "Dr.Jeff." He comes up many times out of nowhere as they express how much they love him or how funny they think he is. They also frequently ask when they get to go back to his office because they can't wait to hear him "talk in his funny voice, tease them, or remark at how pretty their teeth are." What an amazing man! We are better for having known him and his impact will be everlasting. Heaven has gained an angel for sure. xo

We wish you our sincere condolences. Our whole family truly loved going to the dentist to see Dr. Blum. He made each visit special. Our boys started seeing Dr. Blum at age two and both would run into the building asking if they could go first. This was solely because Dr. Blum made each visit fun, warm and comforting. He was an amazing man and doctor and will be missed greatly by anybody who was lucky enough to meet to him.

Our family is so sad to hear of Dr. Blum's passing. Our boys are 17 and 15 and never saw another dentist. They loved Dr. Blum as did my husband and I. He touched our lives and we will always be grateful. Our youngest was 2yrs, fell out of his bed, and Dr. Blum took my frantic call at 10pm. He calmly told me to put my husband on the line and told Ken how to put the tooth back, and assured us all would be well until he saw us the next day at the Penn dental school. He was right, and Brian still has a beautiful smile. I hope these memories help heal the sorrow. He will be missed .

December 3, 2012

We, as others have shared, will greatly miss Dr. Jeff. In the 28 years that he has seen Mitchell he made each visit easy for us. When we saw him in June, he recalled the need years ago to start the cleaner far away and move it in slowly to avoid a startle. He even chuckled when he had to tell him to stop talking while cleaning his teeth then looking at me to recollect when we never thought it would be an problem...

Our prayers go out to his wife, children and extended family. I hope the positive impact he had on so many lives will bring you some comfort in this time.

I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Blum's illness and passing. Like all parents who found themselves with young children in his office, I felt like we were in the hands of a gifted dentist wrapped in the body of a funny, silly, gentle, and kind person. Dr. Blum had an amazing way with special needs children. He helped my son when no one else would or could. His manner and his skill turned my screaming son into a dentist lover! All three of my children and me will miss him and remember how much fun he made it to go to the dentist office. He was a very dedicated and caring man.

December 3, 2012

Thanks to Jeff, our children (now grown) actually looked forward to going to the dentist. Jeff had such a great sense of humor and the ability to communicate "a sense of calm" to both children and their parents. He clearly was passionate about his work! We are so sorry to hear this sad news, but will always remember the big smile he shared with his patients. She even believed for a period that Dr. Blum was the tooth fairy. He will be missed.

I'd like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of Dr. Jeff at this truly devastating time. He had been my children's dentist for the past 11 years and we loved him like he was a part of the family. He was that rare kind of dentist who had myself and my children smiling and laughing at every visit. He was an excellent dentist who provided amazing care while easing my children's fears and making them smile just a little through their tears. Simply put, we loved him. We saw him 3 weeks ago and were devastated to hear of his diagnosis. He was that truly special one of a kind type of guy. Please take comfort in knowing that he was loved by so many. We will forever hold his memory in our hearts.

December 2, 2012

Everytime we walked into Dr. Blum's office, my children and I were greeted with Dr. Blum's smile and heart felt caring. Our deepest sympathy to the family at this difficult time. We hope that you take comfort in how he has touched the hearts of those that knew him.

December 2, 2012

Jeff was such a kind man, with a huge heart. My daughter was terrified of going to the dentist and would not even open her mouth, until she met Dr Blum. We just saw him a few weeks ago for an appointment and he was still giving the same love and care to his patients although he was so ill. My daughter and left the office crying. We discussed what a strong and brave man he was, and how much we would miss him. I know that his family and friends have many wonderful memories of the love, kindness, and joy he brought to everyone he met. Our prayers are with you.

I looked foreword to every day he spent at the pedo clinic mentoring us, during my residency. He had the heart, spirit, and attitude of a kid. That's what made his patients and students trust and love him. This is a true loss to our pediatric dentistry community, his family, friends and patients.

Judith and Leeanna Rubin

December 1, 2012

He served his community and patients with great respect and devotion. Hundreds if not thousands of children learned to be unafraid of future medical care because of his kind, nurturing care and his dental skill. My daughter, leeanna rubin included. She still wears sun glasses if lights too strong. His death proves the quote" the good die young".

My condolences to the entire Blum family. Dr. Jeff was the best and only dentist to my 3 children. He made such an impression on my daughter that when he told her, at age 3, to "not eat gummy candies because I don't want you to have cavities", she never touched one again, even declaring to her preschool teacher that she was allergic to jelly beans.

His smile, funny mannerisms, and commitment to making an appt with the dentist fun, will be sorely missed. Dr. Jeff will always have a special place in our memories.

Dr. Blum will always have a special place in my heart. I have known him as my first and only dentist for (almost) 18 years. Mrs. Blum and family,

Our deepest condolences to you all. I can't think of any other dentist who would elicit enthusiastic "hoorays" from thousands of children upon hearing the dentist announcement from their parents. Our girls were just two of the many that did so. His approach with children was an artform. Who else could combine goofiness with sincerity and professionalism? As my wife said, "Our community has lost a gem of a man".

November 30, 2012

Dear Mrs. Blum and family,
Just last week my college junior, Grace, asked me if it was weird that she couldn't imagine going to any other dentist other than "our dear Dr. Blum?" I replied that I wished I could go to Dr. Blum and she smiled, telling me she would visit him over Christmas break. I was so shocked to learn of his passing when I called today to make an appointment for my younger daughter, Colette. Dr. Blum was always so kind, gentle and fun-loving with my girls...and with me. He never missed an opportunity to comment not only on their dental hygeine, but on how they were growing into lovely young women. He also talked about how proud he was of his children and would relate tales about their college searches, passions and successes with a twinkle of pride in his eye. We will keep Dr. Blum and all of you in our prayers today and in the future. Though we mourn his passing, we will always celebrate his special "gift" of caring for children and the families in his practice.
God bless you.

Cindy, Jean, Barry, and the many Blums I haven't met -- it's been decades since I knew and last saw the first three of you at Ramah, but that means it's just like yesterday. I was deeply saddened to hear of Jeff's passing. The tributes I read here are not at all surprising; it's gratifying to know that he remained the good humored mensch I'd always know him to be (and, I hope, fine drummer). I just saw in the Ramah EMail photos of Jeff and Cindy at camp in the past few months. How special and bittersweet those visits must've been. On the bright side, you truly knew your soulmmates in life; what a treasured privilege for both of you, and what a loss for all of us. Alav hashalom.

November 30, 2012

I am so saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Blum. He was greatly admired and loved by all the families and children who visited with him. I knew Jeff as a parent of 4 of his patients for the past 13 years as well as friend and colleague having sent my pediatric patients to him over the years. Jeff was a gentleman and mensch. I wish Cindy and their beautiful children only beautiful memories that will always be treasures to their souls.

November 30, 2012

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Jeff's untimely passing. He was my children's first and only dentist and they continued to see him all through college. He was always warm and funny and always took the time to talk with me as well. I loved the sign on the wall that he had written as a child at age 6 that he was going to be a dentist and not change his mind. It was wonderful that he got to do what he always wanted.

Thanks to Dr. Blum, my two boys never knew that going to the dentist was anything but a good time. Cindy and family,
Our deepest sympathy at the loss of such a wonderful and special man. Jeff was an important part of the lives of all of our children growing up! It was always a treat when he would pop in to the store to buy candy for you guys and sneak a dark chocolate Oreo for himself. He will be missed! Ellen and Sam Barsky

Dear Blum Family,
Our family is so very saddened to hear about Dr. Blum. My five children are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be Dr. Blums patients for many years. We will miss him. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with your family, with his staff, and with him, our beloved dentist. Love,

Visiting Dr. Blum was always such great fun for my girls. No matter what uncomfortable or awkward procedure was required, I don't think they ever noticed they were at the dentist.

From the moment he walked into the room they were consumed with his songs, jokes, stories and silly voices. And yet he multitasked to perform incredibly delicate work on tiny mouths in tandem with his borscht belt comedy show.

Like a consummate performer, he made it all look so easy. Our whole family will miss him greatly.

Dr. Blum was my kids' favorite. He was like a special uncle to them. Always loving and kind and so happy to see them. He always cared and asked about their lives and was genuinely interested in them. He always had a joke or smile and a kind word. He was a rare treasure. He will be missed, but his care will always be remembered...

Dr. Blum was my son's dentist and last saw him in June. He had been his dentist since he was a toddler, and we all loved him. He will be dearly missed.

Dear Cindy and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Although I hadn't seen Jeff in quite a while, he and I spent time as children, as cousins together. I have such fond memories of time shared I know he will be missed

Dr. Blum was a great dentist, fine person and gentle soul. The Smiths will forever remeber his sensational Daffy Duck impersonation. It always put his patients at ease and that is no easy feat where dentistry is concerned! We offer our deepest condolences. The Smiths
