Jeff and I were young sportswriters together, so you know how old I am. Jeff was an intense, thoughtful writer, who bristled at bad editing. Which is probably why he became a good editor. I was surpised when I heard he was an editor, but not surprised when I heard he was a writer's editor. Of course, I will always remember what a good writer, and person, he was.
