Dr. Joan E. Hurlock

1933 - 2025

Hurlock Dr. Joan E. Beloved physician, friend, mother, and grandmother, passed away on February 24, 2025, after a life full of laughs. Born Joan E. Rosenbaum on January 8, 1933, she was the first of five children to Helen and Edward Rosenbaum. She first became a nurse, graduating from the University of Michigan. She cared for polio patients confined to iron lungs. One of those patients served as her maid of honor when Joan married David "Tommy" Hurlock Sr. in 1954. Years later, Joan gave birth to their beloved son, David Jr. As a widowed single mother, Dr. Hurlock focused on her education and graduated from Beaver College in 1965, then studied and graduated with her MD from Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1971. She practiced medicine at Roxborough Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia for more than 40 years. She loved her patients in the Roxborough community. Dr. Joan Hurlock was incredibly personable and always had a joke. She had a remarkable talent for turning strangers - especially patients - into friends, and friends into family. Dr. Joan and her best friend, Lorraine Beaulieu, enjoyed spending time traveling, in the Poconos, and in their garden. Dr. Hurlock has now been reunited with Lori, her family, friends, patients, and every Chihuahua that she ever loved. Her family will miss her, her light, and her laughter. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Friday, March 7, 2025 beginning at 9:00 A.M. at Saint Matthias Catholic Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Ave., Bala Cynwyd.
