JOAN M. (nee Duffy), on Sat., Oct. 21, 2006. Beloved daughter of Marion T. (nee Devine) and the late Thomas Duffy; loving wife of the late Robert W.; dear mother of Dolores Hoban (Thom), Joanne Lachawiec (Stephen), Kathleen McClain, Robert McClain, John McClain, Constance Murray (Christopher), Kevin McClain and the late Gertrude and Lisa McClain; cherished grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 2; sister of Thomas Duffy (Anna), Elizabeth Dukes, Daniel Duffy and James Duffy. Relatives and friends are invited to Joan's Life Celebration Wed. evening from 6 to 9 P.M. and Thurs. morning 9 to 10:15 A.M. at JOHN F. GIVNISH OF ACADEMY RD., 10975 Academy Rd., Phila and to participate in her Funeral Mass 11 A.M. Church of St. Jerome. Int. Holy Sepulchre Cem. In lieu of flowers a donation in Joan's memory to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave., Phila., PA 19111 would be appreciated by the family.

well big nan, its been six months...
six months of not hearing you curse or yell at us- six months since any of us could turn to you for help. we all think of you all the time and really miss you. Easter was hard but please be with us with next month! I think that we could all use it.

Big Nan, we all miss you and love you very much. The holidays were hard but we all managed to get through them- it was different. We all missed you so much. I don't think that will ever fade.. everyone says that it will get easier with time- but they didn't have you to get over- you were so much more than a grandmother- you were BIG NAN...

Dear Mom,
It is three days after Christmas and I survived but not without my heart breaking because you are so very missed. Every time someone would open the door,I would think here she comes and I would hear you cursing at someone or something. But you never did come through the door and that night it me that we will no longer spend christmas with and how I miss you. so now that I love and that my life will never be tha same

It's Christmas Eve as I write this and I think back to all the years spending with Mrs. McClain or to me- Mom. From the start of the season hearing her say "I'm not going all out this year with the decorations I've had enough" to pulling up at the house on Clayton Street and the house being lit up like it was every year and it looking beautiful with the reindeer that she loved and the wreaths in her windows that she was so proud of making and doing the christmas shopping for all her grandchildren that she loved so dearly.
I miss you Mom more then you know. I hear you in my head having one of our many conversations and your laughter and you cheering & screaming at the Cowboys. I guess it is ironic that this year your boys are playing the hometown team on Christmas Day. I never got the chance to say one last time "Thank You and I Love You" for everything you did for me in life and continue to do for me. Everytime I drive down Holme Avenue and get to Winchester my heart feels you and my head has to stop my car from turning left and going to see you and Gram like I have done for so many years or coming over to play cards. Some of the best memories of my life are with you and you made me feel like I was your daughter from the minute we met. I will never forget our talks over the years or your advice or just your shoulder to lean on at times when things were hard. You provided so much to me and everyone and I miss you and love you dearly.

Dear Joanne and Family.
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your grandmom. my deepest sympathy and condolences go out to you- I only met her a few times with you in the infusion room, but from what I could tell, she was a phenominal person with a great sense of humor and a strong will. She will be missed. If you need anything please call.

Dear "Jo-Jo" and family.
Your Big Nan was always a very nice person. Although I only knew her for a short time- the time i was able to spend with her every morning was delightful. She was so energetic and all she talked about was going back to cleaning houses. She was a remarkable woman and someone I will miss and cherish always.
Jo-Jo:: you did so much for your Big Nan- I know that she really appreciated and loved you for that. You are a great granddaughter. If you or your family need anything please call.

Steph, I remember coming over your "Big Nan's" house all the time when we were in high school. Her house was absolutely beautiful!! Carol told me she had a good talk with your Grandmom right before she moved.

Dear Mrs. Duffy and family,
I was shocked and so very saddened by Joan's death. She was a very special, giving and loving daughter, mother and friend to so many. Our childhoods brought us together, though the years separated us. But I have always had a special part of my heart that held the Duffy Family and I grieve with you at her loss. I know that she has joined Bobby who she lost so young.

I was so sad to hear of your mom's death. She was so much fun, and some of my fondest memories as a teenager are of hanging out with Kathleen and sitting in the kitchen sharing a laugh with all of you. Your mom left quite a legacy, and you should be very proud of all that she accomplished in her lifetime!

Although I never knew your Mom, I heard a lot about her through my coworker and her daughter Joanne. I was shocked when I came upon the death notice this morning. I thought she was doing OK after her bout with cancer. My deepest sympathy to Joanne and the rest of the family on your loss. Death is a hard think to face especially when we lose someone we love.
