JOHN ARCHBOLD Obituary
ARCHBOLD JOHN CORNELL March 5, 1983 - Sept. 10, 2025 Age 42, of Haddonfield, New Jersey, passed away suddenly on September 10, 2025. A beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, John's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. John was born March 5, 1983 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Great Valley High School in Malvern PA, he proudly attended Syracuse University, graduating with his bachelor's degree in political science in 2005. After beginning a career in the financial services industry, he pursued and attained the prestigious Certified Financial Analyst designation and was a valued member of both the CFA Society of Philadelphia and the CFA Institute. Most recently, John - known to many as "Arch" - held the position of Client Portfolio Manager with Aptus Capital Advisors of Fairhope, Alabama, where his expertise and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. He was a regular contributor to publications and other presentations on financial advisory topics, always with professional poise and command of his topic, and laced with his unique, sharp sense of humor and examples from his total recall of every movie he'd ever seen. Growing up, John especially enjoyed summer vacations at his mother's family's cottage on Lake Keuka in the Finger Lakes of New York, where he created lasting memories waterskiing behind the boat of his cherished late maternal grandfather, and enjoying card games with family. Later summers spent at Camp Tecumseh on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire had a lasting impact on his life, shaping his character and giving him lifelong friendships and meaningful connections that stayed with him throughout his life. He also found peace and joy in the ocean going back to early days of vacations at the Jersey shore with his father's family - a love he continued to indulge in vacations and shore visits with his own family whenever the opportunity arose. In 2016, he met Emily Elling in Philadelphia. They shared an immediate connection, both knowing the night they met they found "the one" which culminated in their marriage in April 2018. They shared a love of travel, good food and wine, ultimately earning their Sommelier certifications together. John loved discovering new recipes, and a favorite pastime was to make dinner for Emily with jazz playing in the kitchen and a bottle of wine open. They also loved vacations together at Lake George, New York, with Emily's family, where John could again enjoy time on the water. In 2020, they welcomed their son, Charles Cornell Archbold, whom John adored. He took immense pride in being a father, teaching Charlie to play chess, reading together, frequently visiting the playground together, cheering on Charlie at activities and sharing his love of sports and the outdoors. John also cherished his daily walks and trips to the field with his beloved Bernedoodle, Hilde, who was his shadow. John was never far from the people and activities that made him happiest. John was always an avid reader, a lover of games of all sorts - cards, video games, chess, and Diplomacy - a history aficionado, a movie buff, and an enthusiastic sports fan - particularly of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles and the Tottenham Hotspur. His ability to predict the next play in football or the next pitch in baseball was legendary. John's love of sports extended to playing squash and court tennis at The Racquet Club of Philadelphia and ultimately trying his hand at golf - a game he more recently embraced after his son, Charlie, took an early interest in it. A lifelong learner, John was known for his brilliant mind, quick wit, and sense of humor. He could light up a room with his infectious personality, and his ability to connect with others was unparalleled. His career, family, and friendships were all defined by his warmth, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. In addition to his wife and son, John is survived by his father and stepmother, John and Brenda Wright, his stepbrother, Andrew Jackson, his sisters, Alexandra and Gwendolen Archbold, his maternal grandmother, Janice Archbold, and many other family members, friends and colleagues, who will miss him dearly.
