I had the honor and privilege of managing Long Crandon, home for retired priests, for the last three years that is was open. From my first day on the job, whether it was Spiritual needs or creature comforts for the Priests, Fr. Jack was always lending a helping hand to make the house a home. He always derived so much pleasure helping me plan the monthly birthday dinners held at Long Crandon, especially when it came to choosing the meal and wine pairings. Fr. Jack was a kind and gentle man always at the ready with an efflorescent smile and kind words.

Never at a loss for words, Fr. Jack gives a toast at dinner at Long Crandon

Dear dear Father Jack... My mother and he were very close. When my oldest sister was born, he was given permission to be her Godfather. She was very close to him in the last months of her life~ she passed in 2006... He was able to come and say her funeral mass. It meant so much that he held her so close in heart in her time of greatest need. Both of my parents passed in 2014, and I know they are joyfully visiting now... Bless you Father Jack.

We remember Jack as an ecumenical study partner in ministry during our classes in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola. He got to know Carolyn and we all had dinner together once a year or so until Jack just couldn't continue. Carolyn and I will miss our kind friend with his generous spirit, great stories, and hearty laugh.

Fr. Jack had a great love and devotion to both the Blessed Mother and to his natural mother. I suspect it was no coincidence that it was on Mother's Day our Lord called him home to be with the two women he loved so much! Five years ago I had the great privilege and joy of getting to know Fr. Jack more closely and hearing his life story. One of the special things he shared, which I thought about upon learning of his death, was that after his mother died the Lord gave him a vision of her and his father on the way to the "Banquet" in which the Lord said to him: Jack, be faithful in my love and you will join them.-- I have no doubt of the faithfulness of sweet Fr. Jack or our Lord!

Father Jack and I were in Maryknoll Seminaries together for four years 47/51. Though we did not see each other very often after he shifted to St. Mary in Balt, I considered him a dear friend. My whole family and his were close for those years. Dan, Leila and Neen are long departed. Now Jack is with his sweet family again. I will remember him regularly in my prayers.

Fr. Jack was a great guy. I first knew him in Elementary School as an altar boy at SS Philip & James. Later, in high school, SS P&J CYO members would go to St Andrews and he would be there. My third encounter was as my Pastor at Most Precious Blood where he got me involved again in Lectoring and CYO coaching. I thank the good Lord for letting him be a part of my life.

Knew Fr. Jack from our prayer group at Most Precious Blood back in the 70's. His leadership and guidance made Christ alive for me. Until we meet again.

1969 - St. Clements Lansdowne - Fr. Collopy put the lights on in the confessional box for my 9 and 7 year old for their first confession. They were afraid to go into the dark box, the first time, having just lost their daddy 6 months before. Fr. Jack understood and I never forgot his kindness. R.I.P. Father Jack, you were the best.

Father Collopy was a wonderful priest and a gentleman. I remember him from St. Clement's in Lansdowne in the 1960's. I remember the Sunday that he took us to visit his friends from South America, who were staying in downtown Baltimore. On our way back he dropped us off at our house on Caton Ave. and visited with my parents.

Father Jack was a charismatic guy....remember him from St. Matthew's Parish in Northwood....supposing that Heaven is just that much more colorful now . He was one , as I remember . to wear bold colors . A genuine reflection of the man's character I surmise . Was a pleasure to have met him , even if for only a brief time . Condolences to all .

I love it when Fr. Jack would wear the yellow vestments his mother lovingly made for him. He said that he looked like Big Bird wearing it. Love his smile, laugh and his love of our Savior.

One of my heroes at SSP&J. Always smiling, always positive. One of the images I have of was the way he held his cigarette between his teeth surrounding that infectious smile. Heaven will be an even better place now.
