John was a work colleague for a brief two years and a friend for many years after that. His friendship transcended the sorts of the things that drive people apart today. We would attend minor league baseball games and college basketball games where we would argue bitterly about the law or politics. (John would actually bring an agenda of contentious issues to keep conversations lively.) We may have angered the people around us but never each other. Our battles would often end with John saying "Let's get some ice cream" and we would be off talking about our families or favorite local teams. I will miss those days. Barbara and the whole Doubman family have my deepest sympathies.
Rest in peace Dober.

I was so very sorry to read about the death of your husband/father/granddad. Your family has always been one of my most favorite Gladwyne families and one of my greatest friends. Your pain is my pain. I have so many happy memories of all you from Gladwyne, wrestling, running, seeing you here and there. I can only hope that the love and memories of John, your husband and your father, will soon help to heal the loss that you feel.
My deepest and most sincere sympathy,
Cathie Cooper

Barbara, when I saw you a few days ago, I had no idea about John if he was ill or anything. I was shocked to hear of his passing. Josephine and I never got chance to know him since we left 34 Wingstone lane due to our illness. Our sympathies to you. Ted McGurk.

I was deeply saddened by this news.
I was at Harriton from 64 - 66, I had John as my English teacher the first year he was at Harriton and then three years as my Lacrosse coach.
I was so happy in 1964 when he told us he was starting a lacrosse team...I had played at camp the previous two years and figured I would never get to play in High School having to go to Harriton instead of LM.
I will never forget the happy look on his face when he came onto the school bus after we won our first Varsity game my junior year...I had scored the winning goal in overtime against Abington, and we were still a club team at the time, usually playing against JV squads except two games with Abington Varsity...it was a major upset!
I was so looking forward to catching up with him this year at our 50th reunion.
I loved him for all that he gave us as a Lacrosse Coach.
Those Springs for those three years with him were some of the best memories of my life...
My sincere condolences to you and your family!
