JOHN MCHUGH Obituary
MCHUGH JOHN JAMES Age 92, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Elizabeth (née Burke) and John McHugh, John grew up surrounded by family and faith. He was predeceased by his sister Mary McAndrews (Haverford), sister Helen Martin (Havertown), and brother Leo McHugh (Philadelphia). John was a man who lived life to the fullest. He loved dancing, rowing, visiting the beach, watching sunsets, and serving others. Every day, he found joy in activity and connection. He cherished the theater, museums, orchestra performances, and gardens - always eager to share those experiences with loved ones. John was married to the love of his life, Emily "Dolly" McHugh (née Monaghan), with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage before her passing 18 years ago. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, love, and devotion. He was the proud father of Gwyn (Irv) Hurd, Sean (Carmen) McHugh, Matthew (Mary) McHugh, and Tim (Kim) McHugh. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. John shared close bonds with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who enriched his life deeply. For over 40 years, John worked as a paper salesman for Buff-Henley and Penn Jersey Paper companies of Philadelphia- a career that perfectly reflected his friendly personality, sharp wit, and tireless work ethic. He and Dolly raised their family in Medford Lakes, New Jersey, before retiring to Tarpon Springs, Florida, where John spent the last 30 years enjoying sunshine, good company, and the welcoming community at the Green Dolphin Condos, where many friends became like family. His front door was always open to all. A graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, John was a lifelong Catholic whose faith was a steady presence in his life. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, kindness, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and valued. His laugh could be heard from down the street, and his generous spirit touched all who knew him. John's family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved Dolly and that his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to a Viewing at the Church of the Holy Eucharist, 520 Medford Lakes Rd., Tabernacle, NJ 08088, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 22. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11 A.M. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Marne Highway, Hainesport, New Jersey 08060.
