Dear Shirley.
Everybody has their heroes. John was one of mine. Owner of one of the first telephone extensions I ever memorized, the first I put on speed dial when I got it, John Sibley was not only a great writer, he was the grammarian's grammarian. On a point of grammar, calling John was far quicker and much more productively understandable that reaching for my Prentice Hall or any handbook of grammar I ever found. And he was free with his time and fun to be with. I never knew his age until I got the attached death notice which only confirmed he was much younger than his years. One of those modest giants one encounters in a career. John Barber

Dear Shirley, my deepest sympathies on learning of John's passing. He was a Renaissance Man who lived life well. I will never forget what John taught me about writing and more importantly what he taught me about life.
