Joseph Corradino Obituary

Corradino Joseph C. August 1, 1943 - November 17, 2024 Joseph C. Corradino of Miami, Florida, a visionary leader, dedicated public servant, and passionate advocate for innovative urban development, passed away peacefully in his home in Cape May, NJ, on November 17, 2024, at the age of 81. Surrounded by loved ones, he left this world with the grace and fortitude that defined his extraordinary life. Born on August 1, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, Joe displayed an early passion for community building and problem-solving. After earning a BS in Civil Engineering from Villanova University in 1965 and an MS in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1966, he began a distinguished career in infrastructure and urban development. Joe's early work included forecasting ridership for San Francisco's BART system and contributing to urban planning in Allentown, PA. In 1970, he co-founded a consulting firm in Louisville, KY, where he spearheaded innovative projects such as the first contra-flow transit lane in the U.S. and Louisville's award-winning Mega Space noise mitigation program for UPS at Louisville Airport. He actively contributed to community enrichment through organizations like the Louisville Zoo Foundation and Spalding University. One of Joe's most notable achievements was his leadership of the Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project, a critical international link connecting Detroit, Michigan, to Windsor, Ontario. This complex project showcased his ability to navigate cross-border collaboration, addressing traffic management, environmental impacts, and government and community relations while introducing Michigan's first Community Benefits Program. In 2003, Joe moved the headquarters of The Corradino Group - a nationally recognized firm specializing in program management, civil engineering, and public involvement, to Miami-Dade County. His visionary leadership helped shape numerous transformative projects, including Miami's Metrorail system, Florida's first Public/Private Partnership - the I-595 Express Lanes, the I-395 Signature Bridge in Miami, Orlando's I-4 Ultimate, and Indiana's I-69 Finish Line. Joe's commitment to collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth left an indelible mark on urban landscapes across the United States. His efforts reflected his belief in creating infrastructure that connects and uplifts communities. In November 2024, Joe was honored with the Meritorious Service Award from Villanova University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This prestigious accolade recognized his decades of dedication to community-focused engineering, inspiring future generations. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of Vivian P. Corradino, cherished father to Pinecrest, FL Mayor Joseph M. Corradino (Mia P. Corradino), Guy A. Corradino, Danielle M. Corradino, and Nicole A. Corradino, and proud grandfather to Alexis D. Corradino, Joseph D.P. Corradino, Max L. Kotler, Leo M. Kotler, Rocco D. Kotler, Sebastian G. Suarez, and Theodore M. Suarez. Joe's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support made him a cornerstone in the lives of his family and friends. Joe will be remembered for his sharp intellect, boundless creativity, and compassionate heart. His legacy lives on in the landscapes he helped shape, the lives he touched, and the principles he championed. A Celebration of Joe's Life will take place in Miami, with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Louisville Zoo, honoring Joe's lifelong dedication to community enrichment and environmental stewardship. Joseph C. Corradino will forever remain a beacon of integrity, leadership, and vision. He taught us all that with determination and compassion, we can build not just roads and bridges, but stronger, more connected communities.

I am so very saddened to hear about Joe's passing. Joe was such a wonderful person. While in Louisville Joe led with determination, dignity and compassion. Louisville still misses his talents. His word and handshake was as good as any written agreement. Me, my brother and dad always enjoyed our time spent with Joe. He truly had balls of steel. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family, God bless, Tommy Thieneman

Vivian, Michael and I are so saddened by the news that Joe has died. He was a force of nature for sure. Working with him on the "merger" campaigns and the clearing of the Waterfront was a privilege. I learned so much. It was also memorable because we got to know you. Know you, and your children and grandchildren are in our thoughts and prayers.
